Mac Client Crashes... think I have an idea how to stop it

I run 3-4 instances of eve on my brand new 13" 2.8Ghz i7, with 8GB w/Solid State- they all work great together. Sometimes a client or two will freeze, and I just restart it.

Sometimes I notice that when I do restart a client, or even when I am winding up all my accounts that they all freeze and I am unable to launch the client - until I delete the folder \Library\Application Support\Eve Online.

Is it possible to have the clients use separate Eve application support folders? I think there is some corruption when running multiple accounts.

I am experiencing this exact same issue. Sometimes a client will freeze while the others run. Last night this had a disastrous effect. In addition I can't relaunch an actual client (tho i can get the launcher up) until I shut down Steam (which is strange)

How are you running multiple clients?

Are you using the terminal to launch multiple clients, or have you used the cloning tool?

Welcome to the wonderful world of Multiple EVE clients on a Mac. I too experience this and the fix that I use is to go into time machine (highly recommend using) and restore that folder to the last back up before the issue. This has always fixed said issues

Hope this helps

Hi there,

I run the launcher, click play and it 'launches' a client. Rinse and repeat.

Is this considered a 'known' bug by CCP? because this issue is problematic... 'ship-losing' problematic. Does restoring the folder to the last back up mean i'll have to re-download a patch? Because that would be a inconvenience to do every time some patch changes something.

The problem is that all of them use the same client preferences files, and they overwrite each other, so everything goes wobbly before long.

You really want to be using the EVE Clonemaker. It creates separate client preference folders for each instance, and hard-links to everything else so that the clones are smaller than the full client.

To use it:

1) Whenever a patch lands, apply it using your main client only!

2) Delete your cloned EVE Online applications, if you have any.

3) Run EVE Clonemaker once for each clone you have to recreate the clones with the updated client.

Note that client preferences are not stored in the app (they're down in ~/Library, if memory serves), so they will be preserved when you delete the cloned client apps.

It's a little bit of extra work, but it runs great, and it means that if you want, your different accounts can have, e.g., different overview settings, different graphical settings, etc.

Ive been doing the above method for awhile, except I do not recreate the clones. It seems to work fine. I only get freezes when there is internet access going on other than from the clients (including TS3).

If you run a clone and get the message "there is a new build available..." just quit and run the main install.
