EVE New Citizens Q&A

I want to preface this by saying that I appreciate the learning/fighting curve in Eve. I do not want to be a highsec player. Im trying hard to get out and explore.

That being said, Its getting a bit frustrating.

Im a returning player from 2004. I have about 3.4 million SP, mostly basics, ships, gunnery and missiles. Im skilling up for BS's now but ultimately want to be covops pilot.

Right now, Im trying to find something to do that doesnt get me killed in 5 minutes.

Im bored in L3 missions. They are AFK easy. I have the faction to do 4s, and I can fly a Caldari BS, but I cant T2 some of my midslots, and I am low drone skilled so do not want to solo them for fear of losing BS's.

I really want to push the envelope a bit and find some battles that are challenging, so I go into lowsec, flying frigs, dessies or BCs looking to rat. Inevitably, even carefully watching local, I am being caught mid rat fight by pvprs, webbed scrammed and killed. Thoroughly locked down and feeling stupid.

I am in a Corp but, at the most, there are only 5 people at a time on, and 3 of those are mining. Theres not a lot of help there, altho the leadership would help if they could.

What function do I have at this point? I am not giving up, but it really feels kind of pointless at this time to try and do anything more than l3 mission and thats boring me to tears.

Suggestions?

This is not a whine, I respect the game and how its designed, I just want a larger part of it.

Ratting in lowsec is always dangerous for everyone. Even the people that live there may have people from high sec or even nul come through and catch them. Though that's a bit more rare these days. It sounds like you're going to lowsec systems that route into nulsec from high or have lots of people. You want to use the map and any other data you can find to locate back end of nowhere lowsec. Places where you might a few people tops in a day. They do exist before you say it doesn't happen.

Not much advice sorry mate, cos I'm at exactly the same level.

Everyone speaks highly of them as the place to learn PVP.

Never underestimate the positive influence a good corp can have on your game. I would advise finding a more active corp that is better aligned with your goals. If PVP is where your sights are set, try talking to the people who you find yourself fighting. The low sec pirate corps I've been in pretty often recruit from frequent opponents, that's how I came to join two of my previous corps.

Shortly after returning, you got recruited by one of those "we-do-everything,-join-us"-corporations that actually do nothing and are really no different than if you had stayed in the NPC corp but you would feel guilty to leave them, correct?


Solution: As others have said, start looking for a GOOD new corp, though be warned, that sounds easier than done (in regards to "GOOD").


Still, you seem to enjoy the thrill of low-sec but just went off for an unfortunate start; don´t let that frustrate you.
Next time slap some prototype cloak on a fast frigate and just roam around for fun, making bookmarks, checking out the environment and generally testing the waters, so to speak.
Once you have gathered your intel and learned some stuff, come back in a cheap PvP Frig and see if you will enjoy getting popped once more... and make no mistake, you WILL get popped, repeatedly.

Till the day you will win your first fight! Then you will never look back.


And as for your skillpoints, sure they lack now, but it really doesn´t take long to get them to a point where you can stand up to the average player in a certain area (a racial frigate level V takes 8 or so days, a racial gun half of that, for example).

Yep, my 10 second analysis tells me that the whole problem is that you are in the wrong corp. Ditch them and get a better one. I could tell you where to look, but it is forbidden.

I understand the loyalty factor I still keep in touch with my old corp members even alliance members, but the one thing you have to remember you pay for the account so you need to decide what you wanna do and how to do it.

Well not much advice i can give you exept what others have posted,but there is one thing few people seem to consider.
Have you considered asking the leadership how you can help them?
From the sounds of it there are to few members in the corp (atleast in your timezone),maybe they would like some help recruiting?
Or maybe the reason those people are only mining is because they dont feel there is anything else to do. Try to arrange a operation ahead of time,give everyone plenty of notice. If its PVP just say something like "Hey lets go to low sec and get blown up a few times and have some fun!".
Directors or CEO's can only do so much..and who knows,maybe you will find that if you start doing things like recruiting or random operations or drag people off to do whatever others will get the encuragment to do the same.

Many/most corps are "lacking", just as there's many lazy/idiot/dumb folks around there's many corps like that. Finding the right corp with the right focus, activity and challenge can be difficult and time consuming but it's worth the effort. Don't sell yourself short, be at ease with demanding quality and activity from the corp you're about to join. Just because your char is low SP doesn't mean you'll have to accept low quality corps.

Last night I said goodbye to my old Corp and joined a new, shiney, Nullsec corp.

Ive been on TS with these guys and they come across as knowledegable and adult. I am looking forward to making my way down there.

I've always secretly respected players that effortlessly make a decision to change guilds or corps in game, but Ive also been proud of my loyalty to a team.

Players will tell you that "its just a game, its your money. Play it like you want to play it." But Ive never agreed with that. Its real PEOPLE.

There's a human being on the other side of your screen and that makes this game real.

Anyway, thanks for the overwhelming advice, you were right, and I look forward to getting much more involved in Eve.
