Oh God, Dead Again. Battle Scenario Help

I've paid my dues and slowly learned the hard way that wandering out on your own can get you killed.

I would like to know what I could specialize in to take care of a pesky well outfitted and trained Wolf
Who spends his free time picking on the little guys with little reward other than for the fun of it.

I dont discourage his attitude, but like anything. Failing repeatedly results in frustration.

The scenario I'd like to try and beat is:

I have a mining ship I can bait with.
Nothing beyond the newer Vent ship for begginers or whatever theyre called.
The wolf will come and attack us.

I'm aware something like a wolf would have -90% EM damage, but be weak to -10% Explosive.

Covert Ops with possibly a manticore or hound? They say in the ship description that the missles are intended for larger ships.
Would using a stealth ship to bomb a small target like a wolf with missles work? Or am I understanding the weak to explosives thing wrong.

Would I want something more like a harpy for long range blasting. But I suppose he could close the distance fast.
Or perhaps A destroyer like Eris. I dont know how that would play out, but I can imagine there would be atleast a moderate level of threat for him.

Any suggestions, I dont have much more information about his ship in particular other than any other facts you could guess.

On the topic of stealth bombers, they actually use two different modules. First are the torpedo launchers which, as the description states, are intended for larger ships. These will have trouble hitting a wolf. The second part of stealth bombers is an actual bomb launcher which shoots out a bomb 30km directly in front of you. These are untargetable and somewhat slow which will also make them unlikely to hit the wolf.

As for damage types, explosive does not necessarily = missiles. You can pick and choose your damage type if you're using missiles/projectile ammo. Hybrid ammo is restricted to Kinetic/Thermal while Lasers are restricted to EM/Thermal.

For dealing with your wolf problem, your best bet is probably a destroyer as they are able to field high dps while maintaining the tracking of small guns making them ideal vs frigate sized hulls. However, if the wolf pilot is more experienced/better trained than you, your best solution will be to simply outnumber him. You may not get a kill but numbers will certainly deter guerrilla tactics.

Stealth Bombers don't really work well against smaller ships simply due to the nature of Torpedos. Even target painted... it's more likely the Wolf will just burn towards the bomber and rip it to pieces (remember, bombers have minimal tanking ability).

Plus... you have to account for other issues.
- that 10% resistance you are referring to is the base armor resistance... the Wolf's shield has a 50% resistance against explosive damage.
- the Wolf's base armor resistance may be only 10%... but the Wolf pilot can easily "plug" the hole with a rig or resistance mod.

All that said... there are ways to kill it without having to resort to "shiny ships."

If the Wolf is using Artillery Cannons then you can counter by using a fast, short range ship and orbiting at very close range where the guns have trouble tracking you. Just try not to get blown up on approach.
If the Wolf is using Autocannons then you can counter by orbiting at range and grinding the pilot down. Just don't let the Wolf get too close.

I personally like the duel rep Incursus because it can tank a lot of damage over an extended period of time. Sadly, the ship is on the slow side and can be "insta-popped" at range by a good artillery ship.
The Merlin is another good choice... especially if used with ASBs.
If you can get 2 destroyers (Tech 1 works) then the Wolf might not bother you and just fly away.

If you do your race's advance combat tutourial you should receive a FREE destroyer, fit it with Artillery or Auto cannons depending on what the Wolf is using. And then fit a Warp Scrambler, Webifier, Afterburner in the mids (you dont want him to get away in his shiney expensive ship!), Fit some sort of tank on the lows with maybe a diagnostic system or tracking enhancer.

You should be able to fit 6 Howitzers or 7 autocannons, PLENTY of DPS to take a wolf down if their squishy.

Stealth bomber is worst possible ship take vs assault ship like wolf. Best way to kill a wolf is to fly something faster and keep out of his main dps range.

Rapier will work just fine, 2 webs, long point and barrage ammo in your AC's (don't use arties). You can put a decent tank on a mining ship so add a scram+web to it and he acts as the initial tackle, Rapier uncloaks takes over tackle and starts applying dps. If at all possible launch ECM drones (from both miner as Rapier, initially) to try and break Wolf's lock so the miner can gtfo, then kill him.

Blackbird. MWD, web, scrambler, 3x anti-Minmatar ECM. Bye bye Wolf.

Lots of great suggestions in here for players with experience, sp, isk... Best bet for dealing with this sort of grief as a noob is to overwhelm your enemy. Just do what you usually do when this usually happens but have a dozen other noobs in frigs and dessies in fleet and waiting in system. When the guy shows up scram and web him then have the fleet warp to you and lay down the firepower. No different than any other bully, once it gets hard to pick on you he will stop.

Bombers are the wrong direction against frigates. Torps do bad damage to small sig radius ships and bombs are NOT ALLOWED outside nullsec. However a well placed bomb against a frigate who has his mwd on will usually spell disaster for a frigate.

Best bet is to have some friends near by to handle him.

FC, what do?

A Blackbird is very cheap and doesn't need many skill points at all. If it can get close range on the Wolf then (assuming you don't have extremely bad luck with the ECM) it can kill it easily and safely.

Fit the bait miner with a scram and web, have the Blackbird at a nearby off-grid tac, aligned ready to warp in. As soon as Wolf attacks, miner scrams and webs to hold him down until the BB arrives. Blackbird warps to the miner, and as soon as he has locked the Wolf it's game over. You just have to make sure the miner can survive long enough for the BB to do the short warp and lock the Wolf; maybe 15-20 seconds.

I'd do a little intel on the guy too. Look at EVE kill and see how he fits his wolf from loss mails. See if most of his kills are newbies so it will tell you how overconfident he may be.
