Just want to thank CCP for this new release, ninjaing around is going to be awesome.

  • I steal your loot and I'm going to be a global target for 15 minutes. I'm already tasting the adrenaline rush.
  • New NPC AI: if I salvage while you're pewpewing around in your battleship I'm gonna have to be _really_ careful. New strategies are required.
  • Improved Probe stats! Salvage drones! Yay! Big smile

On the bad, though, is that I'll lose security status (right? Right? I'm not sure about this) -- but that's the price to pay for tasty mission runner tears.

Thank you Icelanders! Bear

No sec status is lost from looting/salvaging other people's wrecks

I'll take 2 carebears to go, with extra tears

I've been curious about how Retribution has affected ninja salvagers. I haven't ninja-ed in a long time, but have been considering returning to my roots to see if it is even feasible with the NPC AI changes. The can-flipping suspect thing doesn't bother me. These days I'm more interested in provoking people to fight me with their mission boats, anyway, than any actual loot I might get.

There is no sec status loss. If you lose sec status while in hisec, you get a criminal flag and CONCORD on your ass.

There's no flag for salvaging, so the actual ninja salvager will be unaffected.
The ninja looters will be, but, more often than not, they aren't in it for the loot; they are trying to goad somone into losing a mission boat. The new flag wwill be an interesting dynamic here.

Then take their loot instead of their salvage. The high sec mission loot is often worth much more than the salvage.

I'm still earning my preciousss ISK, and the new NPC AI hasn't prevented people from running missions. Cool

It's actually really fun now, running to a station to empty the cargo while being flagged.
Too bad salvage drones are pretty much useless for us.

Couple of points: First, the salvage drones are useless for ninjas. You don't have time when you hit a wreck to deploy and screw around with drones. You are lucky if you get a salvager module cycle off if the wreck is fresh. Second, being a global target isn't going to make your life easier. It's bad enough everyone wants to kill ninja looters anyway... removing the consequences of gate guns, etc.. will mean you have to stay on the move. It's not that big a deal since everyone wants to kill you anyway, but it will mean you need to be a little more careful lingering about if you are looting multiple wrecks.

Advice: Get out of high sec. You'll make a lot more looting and salvaging player wrecks in LowSec than you will harassing mission zombies in highsec.

You say that like it's about the ISK Lol

We're doing fine, folks. So far it looks like Retribution has been a great help to our profession.

Uh... well not to put too fine a point on it but people get pretty irate when you loot their player kills. If it's for the tears, what makes HS tears better than LS tears? I'm not trying to diss ya, just genuinely curious. If you get better tears maybe I should come to HS.

that's because ninja'ing mission loot or salvage is innefficient, a **** move, and overall not even worth existing as a profession in the first place

maybe pvp loot is enough to constitute ninjaing, but not mission loot

Ah, I took "make a lot more" to be in terms of ISK. The tears here in HS are pretty good and the new Crimewatch system has lots of people confused and on edge. I can't really claim they're better or worse than what you might get in LS - that's something every little sociopath has to decide for himself Big smile

Hmm... well it's pretty clear in LowSec. People who PvP a lot tend to either have a bunch of alts funding their PvP or they scrape by on the wrecks of their victims. The latter group needs to fly carefully fit and juiced up ships to ensure consistent victory, and even then it's tight. Faction webs ain't cheap. (I should know, I loot and sell them all the time.) They get absolutely furious when you jack their kill. Some PvPers actually don't give a snip... in fact they are more interested in killing me than any loot, because the killmail is actually worth more to them. They aren't in it for ISK. Those guys I have to be very careful of. The well-off PvPers shed no tears and are the most dangerous to ninjas. Faction Warfare people get miffed because they don't win very often. They loose ships to pirates and PvPers a lot more than they do to one another (from what I've seen). They get mad because they dislike ninjas on principal. You see... there's a rainbow of tears and fat stacks of expensive loot in lowsec. Every day is like christmas. You never know what's in the next wreck. I think LS is where I belong. Blink
