New AI: Not a complaint, just a question...

I have been managing well enough in lvl 4's since Retribution hit, but I'm certainly losing some expensive T2 small drones.

What I'm curious about is: What exactly has changed? That is, what specific behavior should I be prepared for in these newly affected drone-devouring missions?

I don't seem to be losing large drones hardly at all (they don't even seem to pull aggro 90% of the time), but my Warrior II's that I use for frigate-killing are being absolutely slaughtered. And they're fast as hell...but usually can't even make it back to my drone bay before getting popped - and this is usually before they even manage to kill one enemy frigate. I launch them, send them out to the nearest frigate, and before that frigate is popped I find that I have to recall at least part of the flight to my bay.

Anyway, I was just wondering what specifically has changed so that I can adjust my tactics.

Make sure you have full aggro from the frigates and all other enemies (i.e. you are RED boxed) before even launching light drones. Being yellow boxed is not enough anymore, they (frigates, cruisers, BCs) will always switch from you to your drones in that case.

well, what has changed is exactly what you described. mission and complex ai will now occasionally switch targets. if and when the switches occur depends on the npc ship size, your your ship size (frigates like to shoot drones instead of battleships and the other way around), ewar and rr.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I have to disagree, ive found while yes they sometimes switch to a new target they seldom stay on that target to cause my drone that much damage, UNLESS i launch light drones then its like bees to honey. its only ever the light drones that will get creamed out there, most of the time ive had little in the way of issues with the new drone AI cept with my light drones which as a Drone boat user i now simply do not use and just release my heavys to kill the frigs instead, they wont be targeted.

This is what I've noticed and is what I was trying to understand. I haven't lost a single heavy drone yet, but I'm down like 25 light T2's.
