Could we get drones that land on opposing ships and take out propulsion, weapons or simply start chewing thru shields or armor. Im too old and slow to keep track of all the flying locusts.Shocked

I hate that you beat me to this.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Someone has been watching The Matrix movies again.

Start the day off slow and taper off from there.

[censored censored censored censored censored censored] too?

To answer OP: You're basically talking about what light, medium, heavy, and EWAR drones do now.

That in general is one of the things I found EVE to be lacking, compared to Pirates of the Burning Sea. In that game, you had various types of ammo that affected different things. Bar and chain shot took out the sails, which slowed you down. The grape shot took out the crew, which slowed rate of fire and made changing sailing direction slower. And then you had the ball shot that took out the hull and sunk the ship - sails, crew and all. Made for some interesting decisions and mechanics.

Yes I thought for a few reasons, to give some more tactical options, give builders something more to make and also ... I really have never understood why drones use those circular cowboy and indian patterns. Space being devoid of air and gravity drones should actually move in more straight line trajectories-or land on ships and be used as a tracking device, explode, disable weapons, or nom nom get in my belly and i get biggerTwisted I dont know exactly what part of drones causes all the lag, but they always have the way they are currently set up.

So they can die even faster. great idea.

The only thing that haven't really been done with drones is to make them purposely expendable other than using ewar to flee.
Suicide bomb drones, .5m3 5bw, launch waves to explode against ships, stronger than missiles, weaker than bombs.

EVE needs Suicide Drones.

Go to launch them and you realize that they left their engines running in the hanger.

Considering their stats, such as signature radius, they might as well fly in a straight line and hold up a big huge "Shoot me!" sign while doing so.

I mean, think about it. A heavy drone, regardless of whether it is a slow armor tanked Gallente Ogre or a lighter and more nimble shield-tanked Minmatar Berseker, they both have signature radius of 100 m. Ogre has mass of 12,000 kg, and volume of 25 cubic meters. Berserker is 10,000 kg and also 25 cubic meters.

Meanwhile, a Vexor, that can hold many of these (5?) and deploy 3, has signature radius of 150m, mass of 10,310,000 kg and volume of 115000 cubic meters.

So, a single drone has 2/3rds the sig radius of the ship, while being 0.11% of the ship's mass and 0.02% of the ship's volume. Does this make ANY sense? Anyone? Do these percentages look...right? 66.6% signature, at 0.11% mass and 0.02% volume? How does that happen?

This could actually be a fun thing.

Drones that just beeline for a ship, clamp to it's hull and do stuff. Like paint it, cause a cap leak or interfere with reppers.

They'd have to be pretty small as they would be use-once suicide drones. Once on a hull they stick there until the ship is blown up or makes it to a station to be deloused. Or have them run for a few minutes and then be out of power.

Lots of possibilities.

Or instead of simply blowing up, a suicide drone instead of damaging shields or armor of the hull, clamps onto a random ship module and starts damaging it like its overheating. Shield or armor reps can slowly short out any of these drone attached to your ship. Same goes for remote reps.

if we can get drones that explode pink paint on their target and do not cause aggression...

I will train in drones.
