I'll reserve judgement but this might actually work:

Looks good in theory, but at the same time, the science went right out the window in the first 15 seconds or so.

I would not be surprised at all if it was all in the kid's head as his ship explodes violently in the extreme upper atmosphere.

Also, was that M Night getting sucked out of a hull breach at the very beginning?

If so, hopefully straight into the confines of the Village.

Never liked Jaden Smith; always found him to 'acting by numbers'.

I want to see Will Smith kicking ET's butt in ID4 part 2, not some quasi-theological post-apocalyptic-futuristic 'ten little indians' movie with his son.

Sorry, but sci-fi needs to be an awesome spectacle or a meaningful parallel of current perspective to make a point about what is wrong and right in society today.

Not somewhere in the middle.

He didn't need redeeming, he just needed to block out the outside world and get back to writing solid stories - which he is more than capable of doing.

This is gonna get hit hard by the critics; but because The Sixth Sense made over half a billion dollars (and still going strong), studios will keep throwing money at him.

Additionally, if I wanted to watch a science fiction movie set in a jungle; I'll re-watch Predator thankyouverymuch.

Despite the bitter vets comment above me, this movie actually looks promising. I wanna know why a pristine Earth was abandoned.

I'm going to make a guess that the 'twist' is some kind of pseudo science about everything having a double. They found another Earth, and Jayden is a double of Will.

The twist is that theyre dead, Will wasnt the protector and theyre not located in woods near the village, but Jaden's water phobia will save the day against the aliens.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

It's not bittervet when it comes to Shayamalin. It's the wearying experience of being constantly let down after "Unbreakable".

Edit: The beginning of this article with the comic panels is hilarious. The Evolution of an M. Night Shyamalan Fan : http://www.cracked.com/funny-5806-the-last-airbender-movie/

As long as he avoids gimmicky **** and the film is a solid story then it should be good. The chances of Mr. Shyamalan avoiding gimmicky **** is right around zero. I'd have a better chance of winning the lottery I think, so if it's good I'll go straight out and get a lotto ticket.

+1 I've had too many unpleasant and/or infuriating experiences with gimmicky Night Shyamalan films. Pavlov's dog and I will probably avoid this one.
