One by precious one the lights of my inspiration are going out.

Neil Armstrong, Patrick Moore...

How long are the likes of Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawkings to endure?

RIP Sir, you were and always will be an inspiration.

And be the only one to ever pull off a Monacle.

I want to add James Burke to that list. The BBC cancelling Tomorrows World was a crime against British science. Sad

Todays presenters dont have the raw passion or charisma for the job. Sure Brian Cox is pretty and thats why the BBC plonked him there. But in 10-15 years he probably wont have endured. If he does then well done. But his documentaries feel too dumbed down for me.

Sir Patrick was truly a product of his time. And that time is tragically fading from memory.

God i hope they put up a bloody big statue to him in a prominent point.

Aye Lovell was also a shame. The giants of the space age are dying out and the greatest shame is their achievements havent been followed up due to political impetus.

If only the Russians had charged off to the moon and Mars. Oh well Elon Musk and Branson have taken up the torch in a fashion.

I still cant believe Patrick Moore did a piano violin duet with Einstein. I mean... its just... wow. Oh to have been in that audience.

Basically an institution in the world of astronomy & broadcasting.

An absolute legend who'll be sorely missed by his peers and those he's helped educate over the years.

This one's for you, Patrick!

Always wondered whether this item was a hat-tip to Patrick. It'd be nice to think so.

So, CCP -since you've created the premier space-sim, and he was the top man for generations of budding astronomers -how about naming some celestial object of your choice in his honour? You never know -could get you some really positive press.*fingers crossed*

One of the greatest amateur astronomers of our time passed away aged 89 on Sunday 9th December.
He was my inspiration to study Astronomy. One of the giants of our age, his famous "The Sky At Night" ran for 50 years.
A human being respected for his giving kindness without thought for his own time.

May he rest well among the Stars he so loved.

*salute*

I fully support this statement. A true testament to the man that only last week he was hosting the TV show "Sky At Night" looking very frail and elderly.

Yea. Obviously, celestial object = SirPatrickMoore wouldn't be in keeping with naming conventions I guess, but 'Moore' or something?

It'd be very cool and a fitting tribute.

Late nights many moons ago a odd looking man appeared on my screen talking matter of fact about many things i never understood .Then i watched Carl Sagan's serious and returned to watching Patrick Moore with great interest ,He done what he loved until the very end .A Lucky man who opened up the eyes of many a youth staying up later than they should have )
You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist
