Random Bounty

I recently re-activated and was running some level 3's with a buddy when someone jerk off in local put a bounty on me. I messaged him to ask why and he simply replied "why not?". He then, along with his friends, proceeded to continue to increase the bounty on me until it reached 73,000,000ISK. Is this common? What's the purpose? Am I safe in High- Sec space?

They put a bounty on you for lols. It means people get paid money every time they kill you for any reason. It does NOT make you a legal target in any way. It's an entirely separate system.

You're not safe. Don't undock. You will be immediately pked by a random griefer.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

You're not in any more danger than you were before, so don't worry about it.

They placed the original bounty on you for a cheap laugh (everyone's doing it at the moment, so don't take it personally). When you reacted, the started to pile more on in an attempt to make you upset.

At the end of the day, don't worry about it. If you're a HiSec player that never aggresses other players those bounties really won't make a difference to you.

Only 73 mil?

Trust me, you haven't got a problem.

Look on the bright side; now, when people click show info on you, you look significantly more like a bad ass.

^^ tbqfh, embrace the bounty, when people place bounties on any of my characters they get a nice evemail thanking them for their consideration & charity, apart from that one guy who blocked me after placing a measly 100k bounty on me Sad

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You get 73 mil just for being a carebear in space. I have been asking people to put bounties on me since this thing came out and nobody will do it. It isn't fair.Cry I had to put a 1 million isk bounty on myself because I was so embarrassed about it.

Here I am just a few days under two months into EVE, and some little ****-ant targets me and bumps my ship while I am salvaging in a belt in high-sec. So I ignore the jerk, move on about my business, only to find out later that he or she has put the minimum bounty on me. Now I still feel relatively safe, but I have lost a level of anonymity, which is also a survival tactic. I know we are in the sandbox, so it's all in the game, but there should be some kind of downside to the random bounty placer -- perhaps they have to escrow 10x or 100x the bounty, or the bounty should have a time limit after which the bounty placer loses the his escrow and has to reset the bounty and escrow.

So questions, what can I do to mitigate or eliminate the bounty? What can I do to make the jerk wish he/she had never been born?

The downside is that the system tells you who placed the bounty. The only way to get rid of it is to explode. If you want Retribution (pun intended) put one on him too. If the bounty was placed by an anonymity corp, then ask them what it would take to find out who placed it. If they still refuse, just put a bounty on their corp.

Or, like me, you could just move on and get over it, because the bounty system is only rewarding under certain circumstances, and if you have a high sec status in high security space, and do nothing criminal, then your bounty is going to be hard to profit from.

That's not to say someone might not try. Even if you didn't have a bounty.

Bounty thread #1237...

What I can understand is that many hisec players identify as 'good guys' and hate seeing that "Wanted" sign on their avatar. Sure, a mobster can put a price on your head, but there won't be "Wanted" posters of you in all the Concord offices. Official status as "Wanted" is still reserved for people who broke the law.

Maybe CCP could change how bounties are displayed. Reserve the "Wanted" badge for pilots with negative sec status and display something else for pilots with positive sec. Something that says 'has a price on his head' without making him look like a bad person.

The only thing that bugs me abut the new system is that I don't have any bounty yet.

Also, OP is a ****.
