NPC Aggro Timer: Worthless?

I just experienced the lovely bug of my NPC aggro timer refusing to go down from 5 minutes. The only way to solve this is to move systems, which is obviously very impractical if you are in anything big or are being camped in/ etc..

It got me thinking to what the npc aggro timer actually does do? The more I thought about it, the less I liked it.

Effect on Botters/Ratters:
Nothing!
Botters and Ratters (Who are not idiots) alike will do 1 of 3 things when a neutral enters system.

A. Warp to Station and dockup
B. Warp to safe Post
C. Warp to safe spot and cloak

At no point does it even remotely affect them. Perhaps if you get extremely lucky and they disconnect you might be able to probe them out, but otherwise you won't get any kills from this mechanic. Ratters/Botters simply don't logoff in their sites for you to probe.

What about when you try hunting botters or ratters though?

When performing a logoffski in a ratters site, the AI rats will almost certainly shoot you and give you a 5 minute aggro timer, which ironically the ratters can exploit to probe down the logoffski'd pvper in their site and gank.

I might be missing something big here, but I really can't see it for the life of me. Why is this mechanic in place when it serves only to benefit carebears? I had thought this was a mechanic designed to help you kill them, but the exact opposite is evidently true.

Are you serious? Because that's hilarious.

Anyway, this change isn't supposed to buff or nerf one group or the other. It's supposed to prevent stupid logoff play which makes no sense as an actual legitimate PvP mechanic. Whoever relied on it before -- be it carebear or ganker -- got nerfed.

Outside of awoxing, logoff traps in anoms/belts are the only way to catch a fast ratter or a botter. And yeah, I am perfect;y serious.

I was talking about the whole ratter/botter thing probing down the PvPer and killing him, because that is not a thing I ever see happening.

The stupid part is, they could have still allowed us to warp away and keep us logged in. This would allow for genuine disconnection not being farmed by the AI while stopping PvP Disco jockies.
