CCP - How do I stop the hearing test I have to take during every combat?

I will start off by saying, if I missed where the 'turn of the painful screeching' checkbox is I apologize now and I would be very appreciative if someone could tell me where it is.

Now then, today I filed a bug report because my game of eve makes a sound that can best be described as running a Pokeman through a wood chipper every time I target an enemy or have a flag expire. The has to be a bug, no normal human would listen to such a sound and think hearing it over and over again would be acceptable in any situation other than to check and see if the subject was deaf. If I had this sound on my speakers rather than my headphones I am fairly certain that most member of the canine family within 500 yards would die from massive hemorrhaging of the ear canal (even my mother-in-law). Maybe I am in a unique situation where I did not burn out my hearing a a child listening to loud music, but there has to be a way to stop this noise (it isn't a sound, its noise).

All jokes aside about 'eve has sound' , the only way to stop this is to turn off all the sound. It is a poorly deployed game concept that needs the OPTION to be turned off without impacting other sounds, it needs the OPTION to choose a sounds that won't shatter diamonds, or it needs to be removed.

TLDR: Please make it stop. It I wanted this kind of ringing in my ears I'd practice with my .357 magnum in a closet with no hearing protection, while getting yelled at by the mother-in-law and helping Harry Potter figure out his Dragon Egg thing in open air.

This thread can not be posted enough. Please emergency patch that sound out.

All the work you guys have done to improve sound has been destroyed by the combat timer buzzing. There have been several different threads by different people since the patch. If that many people are willing to post about it, then think of all the people that feel the same but don't bother posting.

Please add Combat sound toggles... Like this week!

Might be a good time to rework EVE UI in general and bring it into this century.

That is, allow people to customize their own UI, like so many MMOs have done. This would include sound, ability to bind custom sound files to specific events (shields failing, cap failing, etc.) If WoW managed to have that since 2005, why not EVE?

+1. Sounds improvements are great but that one sound is really annoying. I don't really need a sound to tell me when i start firing. Sometimes useful if you're not paying attention if your guns turn off, but an option to pick and choose which sounds we want would be awesome.

I REALLY, REALLY want to have the Hull breach screeching noise as an alarm clock. I would shoot out of bed instantly.

Ask and ye shall receive

You'll need Audacity to separate it from the shields and armour warning though.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Yes, screeching noise is awful.
Yes, hull breach noise is awful.
Add to that, new ejecting canister noise. The old noise was perfect - this is way to loud and clangy.

Many of the new noises are good, and many are BAD BAD BAD.

NP, I use it as my phones alarm clock tone, it works well for sheer "WTF I'm asploding" panic at 6 am, especially if you clean it up and increase the volume level a wee bit.

Has CCP even acknowledged that this is something they are going to look at yet?

Just to clarify, what screeching noise is this? The only two I know of is the hull breach sound, and the rapid beep when your cap is low (a usefull new sound). Targeting still makes the standard bleepy bleepy bloop noise is did before retri, and an expiring flag sound to me is a barely audible beep.

Kagumichan, I believe the most notable it the NPC logoff timer. If you go fly an incursion or a mission it refreshes every time you activate a gun on a rat. This causes it to buzz on average every 1.5 seconds. I agree with OP and thanks for the constructive post hopefully CCP acknowledges this ASAP

Yeah, that NPC flagging timer needs to be removed/changed/optional.

I filed a bug report on it, (posted as it is not GM conversations, moderation, or exploit related)

Hello MadMuppet,
Thank you for your bugreport titled: Annoying sound in combat/flag ending sound

Thank you for your input, but we encourage you to instead use the feedback thread for this topic on the forum.

So officially giving one a headache was not a game design error, but intentional. Fine. (and yes, I have a post buried within the mass of feedback about this patch as well). I hit the unsub button tonight and posted why I am doing it in the unsub feedback section of the webpage. I am not saying 'I'm leaving' I am simply saying that I am no longer paying until it is addressed, this was not an error on my part, but intentional.

Combined with the 'full room aggro' issue I see little point in kicking back and enjoying a game session on a Saturday night. I play Eve to relax and enjoy my internet spaceship presence, but this high-frequency issue makes my skin crawl and watching a L3 turn my Loki in to swiss-cheese only reduces my interest even more.

Hearing test, LOL. Yeah, I guess I get the urge to raise my hand every time I hear the signal.

Bzzzt Bump. Can we please get a CCP response to this problem? Most people I have talked to are very put off by the log off timer sounds.

Give us toggles please!

The new warp sound needs improvement as well. Right now it sounds like...well, it doesn't sound like much of anything. Just a quiet whooshing sound. I miss the ssshhhhhhaaaaaaaBOOOM! when reaching maximum warp speed.
