New AI battleships think that salvage drones are more dangerous than a battleship

So my friend and I were doing Guristas Spies, and he brought a Noctis. Once I cleared everything down to just BC class ships and bigger, he came in and deployed salvage drones. Every single enemy ship switched targets to the drones. After pulling them, they all targeted the Noctis. Drones and a Noctis were more threatening to the AI than a battleship that had been blasting them for 2 minutes...

Don't get me wrong, I can get by with the drone changes, but this AI needs a lot of work.

Sounds like the AI is doing exactly what most roaming gangs would do if they were losing a fight.

I'm actually going to agree (I know, shock right?) that this one seems a little unusual, especially the salvage drones. But at the same time, I don't see a problem here. Why is your mate coming to salvage with a Noctis, which has no offensive capabilities whatsoever, when there are still threats around? I think that's one of the biggest problems with missions - they were too predictable. It's like playing the same Halo game five times in a row. While I agree that this is an odd behaviour for an AI - I think it's a necessary one, as well. Get your mate in another battleship to help you clear the threats, THEN start salvaging.

Just so I got this straight. You brought the Corpse Desecration Mobile in while you were still murdering all their friends and were surprised they were pissed?

Of course they took a shot at it!!!

If it was me who was losing a fleet of several dozen ships to one ship, I'd honestly also go for their squishy clean-up ship to limit their profits, and completely disregard the actual threat if it's already a losing battle. It makes plenty of sense, actually. "We can't win this, but we sure as hell can limit their profits!"

If you can't deal with it, just keep the Noctis out until it's completely safe to bring it in.

You could always salvage after, the pocket is cleared...Blink

And then you can jump ahead and start clearing the next room while your friend
salvage the first room...etc.

As the Noctis can now pack salvage drones, you could lose a couple of salvagers and replace them with small remote reps for said drones, the Noctis will admittedly get aggro for RRing, but it can fit a large ASB so it has half decent defensive capabilities.

Alternatively do as the poster above suggested, keep the Noctis out of the pocket until it's cleared.

I just don't understand all the hubbub over the new AI, yesterday was spent running lvl IVs, I lost 1 light drone to NPCs, perhaps because I was only unleashing them to take down the frigates, the DPS they provide isn't exactly stellar when you're using a ship that has no drone bonus.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

the lazy way to solve afk drone boats; ai prioritise every type of drone over any other possible target.

except that afk drone boats use sentries and remote reppers on them, which generally pulls the aggro back to the omnitanked overtanked BS.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Very fitting approach if you think about it.

Except the part about going for the drones. If they went straight for the noctis, I could think it was intentional and some sort of visceral gameplay element they're trying to implement. But when NPC battleships go for drones, they're just being stupid and buggy.

FT Diomedes: "Reaver, sometimes I wonder what you are thinking when you sit down to post."

Frostys Virpio: "We have to give it to him that he does put more effort than the vast majority in his idea but damn does it sometime come out of nowhere."

Been needing work done since EvE's inception. Kind of hard when the program language is in Arabic when it needs to be in French! Oh, and of course without any translator around.

I think the point being implied here is the AI isn't actually being AI, it's just cycling random targets. AI would be AI if they adjusted their tactics to a certain losing battle or adjusted their tactics to the ship you are using (missile boats? use MWD's to close distance) or the likes, not just cycling potential targets.

To be clear, I'm not complaining that it was making it "too difficult" to salvage, we easily adapted. I'm just saying it's kind of ridiculous.
