The new Safety system...

Anyone else agree that the new safety system to protect new players is weak sauce? The fact that there is no "safe" space in Eve is the beauty of the game. The ability to make bad decisions and lose your ship is another part of what makes Eve online great! Losing a ship you mined for a week because you took ore from someone's jet can is awesome. This causes Eve online players to learn "what not to do" quicker than in any other online game. There is a penalty for being a dummy or for being ignorant. You can't just go to the healer and get resurrected with all your gear. Most of the time you lose your ship and it's fittings.

I see this as a way to get more players into Eve. And I understand why CCP, from a business standpoint, has implemented this new mechanic. I've invited some WoW players over and the fact that they can lose all their stuff easily makes most of them quit and go back to the mind numbing....go kill 20 mutant goats and get magical boots/repeat a thousand times game play. The other side to this sword is if new players can't learn the initial "hard lessons" as I call them, then they won't be able to make it in Eve Online's sometimes fierce and unforgiving universe.

What say you?

It's a convenient alternative to what was already in place. Attempting to do something illegal for the first time, a player would get a warning message instead. You could opt to not see the message again, then go ahead and do it anyway. Or, you found it useful in those situations where you accidentally tried to activate your guns instead of a remote repper on a friendly ship, in which case, the "do you wish to continue" box was useful. Now, to fly as an outlaw, you have to actually make a conscious decision. By choosing to fly with safety off, you accept the responsibilities of your actions and choices by virtue, and by will, instead of by accident. There are no more excuses anymore.

Or EVE got hijacked by griefers and wasn't intended to be a slaughter house. CCP just don't know how to create mechanics to make it more than alpha gank.

There was the message before, but once you turned that off, it was off forever...unless you went into the menu and enabled it again. This is a mechanic you have to engage each time you log in. I don't like it. Oh well...Flexibility is the key to Air Power! Suppose i'll have to be flexible.

I think this way, it ensures people pay attention on both sides of the fence. On the other hand, having persistent settings wouldn't make much difference if people are paying attention, either.

eather way its here so move on. its a safety net for all players not a bad idea if you ask me. But allso will cut down on some petitions ccp get on the whole i did not know i would get concrond for that. like using smartbombs in high secs next to a accl gate.

Plus for those that know better yes they should have a settng to were you can have the safety on auto off if you like.

Safety system yeh it is terrible,.... never mind that 90 % of all RL weapons and weapon systems have one.

Can't see why CCP would ever of think it was a good idea at all.

/thread. Honestly, this is the logical way to look at this. No more UI clutter, just me and my choices.

I like to lick things.

My only issue with the safety system is that there is no way to permanently deactivate it (at least I haven't found a way). I find it annoying that I have to disarm it to red everytime I relog.

IMO it should be that if your in highsec it's automatically green, lowsec yellow, and it doesn't matter for null.

there needs to be something added that checks if your in 0.0 and turns the dam thing off if you are.

I get its great for nubs in empire, but its bloody annoying in 0.0

OMG when can i get a pic here

How? You can't get criminal or suspect flags in null, so the settings shouldn't make any difference.

Even in RL, once you turn a safety switch to off, it stays off.

True I see your point but like any system check.
You check your ammo with out thinking about it when you enter your ship or log on.
Arming your weapons will also happen without thought.

BUT

As I think about it.
RED or off should have been safe mode and Green should have been weapons armed.
Guess it is a little late now though for that to be changed.

Oh please... It's only an improvement for a paleolithic UI. Safety button does exactly the same as the previous confirm message windows; only: does it better. Doesn't change any danger level.

On the countrary the actions/consequences risk has been increased with the extension of PvP flags in the new crimewatch.

For RL guns, red means safety off and you're ready to kill.
