Here is one option for an Osprey mining fit (no personal experience with Osprey's). As for defending against pirates (gankers), practically anything you get into is vulnerable to suicide ganks. Try to find a relatively quiet system, preferably 0.7 or higher, and be wary of can flippers :)

I've decided to keep on flying a cheap Reaper for now, as I don't have the funds to be able to lose that Osprey...

They're actually really handy when your fighting style doesn't involve lining up with your CTA fodder buddies in neat little rows like Redcoats to trade honourable Abaddon artillery volleys with the enemy.

No idea about this, but dont feel like dinosaur because you got main orginal character form old times, in fact every day people start play EvE and after few month of skiling they become valuable well skiled characters.

Also even these days meny old mains who play here, still create new alts who become strong after few months even weeks, depend goal, and some people lose this feling who is main and who alt after some period of time, because both chatacters are great.

I remember when i create this character, after two, max three weeks form start i was abble to use raven and cruise missile + decent shield tank, atributes remap help me a lot.

EvE isn't game, its style of living.

The osprey is no longer a mining cruiser, it is a logitics cruiser, get a venture instead.
