I've tried the patch, failed, repair tool failed, download of files locally fails at the end of extraction. I guess the last thing I can try is the dev tool to see what the error is. Anyone else have this problem? Never had anything like this ever. I've read about it but now it's me :~(

I sorted this out by creating a new user account in Windows 7, and installing from that account as administrator. Must be something hidden somewhere that gummed the works.

Probably you have User Account Control turned on.
Turned off that thing from first day on W7, never had problems with repair in 2 years.
Of course don't disable it if you don't know how to keep your system in safety (firewall, h/w router, regular av checks, advertising and script blocks in browser, trusted software etc.).
