Missioning for standings - Striking a balance

Hello Chaps and Chapettes.

I'm aiming for an industrial career and I'm focusing on a building up a solid mining foundation for now before delving into other branches. Like any miner, I want to maximise my refining return and I'm looking to increase this through corp standings through missioning. What I am looking for is a nice balance between using my skill training time for missioning and industrial skills.

Specfically, what level of missioning has the best skills:returns ratio? Also, what is the best types of mission to do for increasing standings? I am currently skilled to fly battlecruisers but the only times I've taken one on a level III security mission I ended up almost losing my ship and never being able to complete the missions. Would mining or courier missions be a safer way to go?

Advice would be very much appreciated.

Safer, yes, but, much much slower than security missions

I would like to know about mining missions as well. Payout, and anything else that makes mining missions different from security.

Mining missions are useful if you want to save standings with the opposing factions, i.e. if you run mining missions for Amarr faction you will save on negative standings with Minmatar faction. This is because the majority of rats you would meet in these missions are faction space rats (Sansha if in Domain). However these missions are, to be fair, slow to complete and not ideal for quickly raising standings for refine.

Obviously with some social skills trained, negotiation, connections and social itself, you can increase your return on these missions and increase your standings and rate of gain.

It's not completely unheard of to fleet with someone for standings while they grind level 4 combat missions.

It's not cheap however.

If you stay out of the systems they are running the missions then you don't scab half the bounties, but no matter what you take half the LP and (I think) mission payout.
They have to set the option to share payouts or you get no standings boost.

You could offer to compensate a hardcore mission runner for

1) Mission Rewards
2) LP value
3) Convienience

You should make a post in the missions/complex forum or maybe the buy order forum asking for standings booster type person.
Organising a time is perhaps the biggest problem.

Oh...you won't get Faction standing, only standing with the corp they are running missions for. Bonus to that is that you don't get derived negative standings either.

Since I could do to get my Caldari Navy standings up a little to save on taxes I took my own advice, sure enough on the front page.

I'm going to assume that you'll be staying within one Empire the majority of the time, considering the outline of the plan - so.

Strongly recommend Social V and Connections IV. Social increases amount of standing gains for each mission, storyline, and Epic Arc. Connections boosts your derived standings above and beyond your base standings. These skills help you to qualify for higher level agents in less time.

Security (encounter) missions: iirc you'll get bigger jumps in standings for the NPC(s) controlling the station(s) at which you wish to refine, reducing & ultimately eliminating station taxation on refining. Refuse encounter missions against any other of the Empires.... you will not take standings hits against anyone but pirates and mercenaries. Eve-survival is your friend for this....

EDIT: Repeat the SoE L1 Epic Arc every 3 months with Social V ==>> yields 7%+ Faction Gain for the Faction of your choice without any derived standings losses to other factions.... if/when you ever get to the point of dealing with L4 Faction Epic Arcs even greater Faction gains apply and again without any significant derived Faction declines to other factions.

Data Centers: pricey but a quick way to start bumping faction standing

COSMOS: ditto w/ data centers.

Derived Faction Losses: can be countered (initially) be running a few simple operations for those Factions.

All of this keeps other Empires "content" with you, you become nice and "healthy" with your Standings to your home Empire and especially with your local NPCs of choice.

For a very well detailed program for Faction / NPC Standings management, look for DeMichael Crimson's Faction Standings Repair Plan on wiki.......

If you're in a player corp with an industrial wing, work on missioning and improving your ship/mining skills & let those w/ the skills handle your refining for you..... for miners in particular having a diversified group always improves yield and profit for all involved.

Your stated goal is standings for refining. A lot will depend on where you want to do that, since you'll need to know which station you'll use to determine which corporation you need the standings with. For trading costs and refining efficiency, you only need corp standing, so faction standings don't matter at all. It doesn't matter what missions you take or don't take for this sole purpose; however, negative faction standings have other consequences. READ UP ON THEM (http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Standing). If you're going to be in lots of different places, you'll want to either get standings for several corps or you'll want to get standings with a corp that has a lot of stations to expand your options. Of course, you can always grind up standings as you need them later, so don't overthink it.

A lot also depends on your future plans for production. If you plan to put up a POS in hisec, you'll need the appropriate faction standings. However, you can always buy a corp with POS standings on the Sell Forum for less than 100mil and its well worth the saved effort.

Level 3 missions are generally considered the fastest way to grind standings. They aren't as time consuming as L4s but the percent gain per mission is lower. It does mean you can get to the storyline missions faster (in addition to faction standing, storyline missions give big boosts to corp standing as well).

edit: You may be tempted to kill 2 birds with one stone and grind R&D standings for both the datacores and refining standings. Be warned that R&D corp stations refine at 30% not 50%. R&D standings are still critical since you'll need datacores for T2 production, but the refining standings are useless.

Mining missions give surprisingly good increases to corp standings. For a pilot who is focussed on mining, not combat they present an alternative way to do things which is really viable (and you thought running lvl 4 missions in a Domi was AFKish - HAH)

The only thing is you will need some combat skills as some of the spawns which do happen in the belts are a bit nasty. Depending on your skills it will take something between 30 minutes - 1 hour to complete the mining missions. One nice thing is that they really do scale up very well with more pilots so with 3 miners you are looking at a reasonable completion rate indeed.
