Tracking camera is great. Good feature.

I do wish it wouldn't go into random spinning mode when you lose a target, though. I found that while mining earlier; popped the rat I was tracking, and the camera just span slowly in a circle. Dramatic, but nauseating.

It's turning out VERY useful for haulage runs, though. Especially when exiting unfamiliar stations and needing to know quickly where the next gate/station is.

Maybe next camera tweak could be 'snap to ship orientation'?

Did you file a report on the random spinning? it would be great to get some more info on that, we have not run into that one internally, can you reproduce this at will?
'Snap to ship orientation" like in a chase camera? We tried out a few more modes on Buckingham, chase and a locked mode and we are looking into them for future iterations.

I filed a report about little "chop" when you after using free camera switch to the tracking one. The transition is not smooth, it performs some kind of "visual lag" on my ship. Happens only when you use tracking cam after using free cam.

I agree it's amazing.

I did notice an issue with drones though. When you you're managing your drones, sometimes you start tracking them and get some dizzing effects if they're orbiting your ship. Maybe this can be turned off for drones or give us an on/off potion for them.

The new camera is a neat feature, I really like it, but I kinda wish it wouldn't change my zoom. Zooming out in a battle and having the camera reset all the way back when I click something makes me lose sight of the battle. I think it would be better if the zoom wasn't modified.

I can reproduce wild camera spinning at will. Just go to planet view mode, look about, exit planet view mode, then right click in space and warp to an asteroid field.

I tried out those different camera modes on the test server and seriously, they were awesome. Tweak them and stick them in the next release please Smile

The tracking camera disengages when you zoom far out, but is still "active" i.e. it will start tracking the next selected item, and that is when it zooms in to the maximum tracking range. If you toggle it off with 'C' it will not zoom in when you select something new. Perhaps it would be better to toggle the tracking camera off when zooming far out instead of keeping it on standby.

Chase mode sounds good. What would locked mode do?

Locks the camera in the current orbital position, same as chase but from any angle.

The tracking camera repositions the camera's orbit and camera tilt around 60 times a second, so it's not much use trying to manually move the camera with the tracking active, i've tried ;) Perhaps it would make sense to resume tracking once you release the mouse button... Our initial aim is to try to not annoy players with unexpected camera behavior, and above all to try to keep them from getting sea sick ( a big problem initially) Big smile

Drones are a valid point, they can be quite fun though, especially hitching a ride on combat drones and track the target from there. But i see how tracking a fast moving drone around your ship could make you sick Ugh

I like the new camera tracking a lot and that little bounce it does when swinging wide is a nice touch. Clicking on a drone in the drone window was rather dizzying until I finished assigning the drone and selecting something else. I'm guessing that ignoring items in the drone window would be a special case and possibly impossible to implement but would be appreciated if doable.

Edit: I see someone posted the exact same issue and got a response.

Roger that, out of curiousity, what was the reason you had to put a maximum range on the tracking?

BAM I got it.Make it so if you HOLD down C and click a target on the overview/space, it puts a circle around the target in space. A line is tethered between the mouse and the circle as long as you keep HOLDING C. Then when you click a 2nd target another circle is drawn around that target in space. The camera then jumps to the 1st target as a look at command, and sets the 2nd target as the camera target.

If you just press C quickly it just changes modes.

heh? heh?

FYI, the toggle on is working just fine, but pushing 'c' again to toggle off is not working.

Any word on fixing the tracking camera so it actually pays attention to your camera offset? It looks like a nice feature, but it is completely useless to me because I use a dual monitor setup with with the camera offset so my left screen is the main focus, and the second screen is for menus and overview.

When you initiate the tracking cam, it completely ignores your offset settings and tracks it into the middle of the screen, which splits everything across 2 monitors, completely defeating the purpose of the camera offset feature.
