Finally, there might be a reason to start playing again...

I played Eve continuously for almost six solid years. From the very first night I was hooked, not logging off from my first playing session until I had played for over 12 hours until downtime hit and I HAD to log off and finally went to sleep. It was instant addiction.

I stuck with Eve through all the good expansions and the bad, but once development came to a grinding halt because all the dev man-hours were being focused on Incarna and not the core game play of Eve (ZERO dev cycles assigned to game balancing for over TWO YEARS? REALLY?) I began to lose interest.

That was almost two years ago. I haven't logged in to actually play in almost two years. I have a character that I trained from scratch with almost 25 million skillpoints that I haven't undocked in over a year. How dumb is that?

Thankfully, things seem to be changing. I love Eve, lots of players love Eve, the devs love Eve. That's why we're such a huge bunch of assholes when the game we love strays from it's core concepts of what makes it fun. We're passionate about it.

While I'm extremely excited to see news of things that should have been happening all along: implants on killmails, new battlecruisers, hybrid balancing etc., I'm still very much in a "wait and see" mode. It's easy for Hilmar to crank out a quick-fix winter expansion with a focus on "FiS". The REAL test is to see what next summer's expansion looks like, and next year's winter expansion and the one after that...

CCP has 3+ years of stagnant development to make up for. Show me the money CCP. Show me that you deserve my faith in your ability to make the game I love great.

P.S.

If you want some advice, and I just *know* you do, listen up: when in doubt, make it destructable. Creat conflict at every turn, build in loss and violence. If there isn't some direct PVP payoff (and I mean this in the broadest sense of the term: Market PVP, Ship PVP, any player vs. player interaction) then it doesn't belong in the game.

To the OP:

There never was any reason to stop playing other than if you had real life problems.

I'd have to disagree- I play to have fun. When the game design and game balance are so badly broken (SC blobs in lowsec anyone?) that it's pretty much pointless to continue, I stop playing. When there's nothing new to tinker with PVP-wise, I lose interest. Why play something that's un-fun?

I stayed with the game as long as I have because of the people- because of the friends that I've made. I still stay connected with them, just not through Eve anymore. I'd like to get back to the point of playing more, being truly engaged with the game and sharing that experience with my friends again. I'm sure I'm pissing into the wind, but oh well. Sometimes I wonder if devs ever read this stuff...

Most of the ones that did got fired.

On your OP; I completely understand the sentiment and agree to it, the real issue I'm having (yes, always nagging) is that I'm not entirely sure all the new stuff is done because Hilmar deems it to be a good thing for the game or more of a "quick, they're revolting, throw in some goodies dun care what it is!". As you stated, the real test is not this winter's expansion but the ones following it. It's an ongoing process and while Hilmar's post sounded sincere I'm not buying it till I see long term results.

Please try and make it seem believable , a character that has been played for 6 years should have more then 25mil in Skill points... My latest alt that is now 11 months old sits at 12 million...

The problem is your f------ attitude about the REST of the game.

He said "A character", as in "one of my alts". People can have alts right, you DO know this?

This. I sold off all my 90M+ SP chars and started training this one, simply because I was bored and had "nothing of real value left to train" on my other characters. I've been training this character continuously now, at around 12M SP/year rate, for about two years. Hence, just under 25M SP. I still literally haven't flown a ship to PVP since I've started training it. No deaths, no kills. Sad really.

I'm tempted to keep from playing actively for as long as they left the door up in the stations.. (3 months)

I'm enjoying other games because of being prodded out the door,

EVE forums for the win though..

and I'm still useful to CCP as a plex sink on 5 accounts ... help them sell isk to players without the fear of inflations.. (and thats what using isk to buy game time does... helps make the mechanic of isk sales to players non-inflationary)

It's nice to see there are people who agree to pay for game they don't actually play for year(s). I hope there are enough of them to keep CCP afloat long enough so company will be able to deliver actual expansion with actual content instead of portions of debugs named "(winter) expansion".

Yeah, someone's paying for it, but not me... I just use ISK to buy PLEXs. Recently I've been considering stopping training all together. Then the winter expansion shows up...
