With the new tracking camera mechanics in Retribution, wielding your d-scanner just became a whole lot easier.

Stealth buff, or just plain awesomesauce? You be the judge.

Any and all targeted dscanning should be done from the solar system map view which is much easier and faster than this.

nah, when searching fw plexes, station undocks, gates etc (ie seeing what ships are at a specific location rather than searching a system for a specific ship) this is really fast and easy

I am already using the new features to great effect. It even works from warp while your camera tracks a celestial, which can't be done from the map. Kudos CCP, I love this change.

Players will always find something CCP didn't expect... Neat though, thanks for sharing.

You can change the direction of the dscan from that solar system map much quicker, which is what Jack was talking about. Highly recommend giving it a try some time. Jack much like myself lives in a wormhole where dscanning isn't used just for hunting the prey, it's used literally non-stop no matter what you do.

The guy in the vid takes a while setting this up, but one it's set up (it's persistant) it's just

select plex/gate from overview > press C > move the slider to 5% scan

It takes three seconds. Overview even shows range in AU so you know what to aim at. Pressing F10, searching for the location of a gate or new plexes in an unfamiliar system, spinning the camera myself and twitching the mouse around to get the bracket in the centre of the screen is a lot slower. I can see how it would work with bookmarks but in Kspace I don't need to scan those very often

The advantage of doing it in the solar system map, is that once you have run your ship scanner once, you can not only dscan the stuff shown on the overview, but also all of the anomalies, which to my understanding would also be of interest to people in nullsec where they are more than worth running.

All in all, as long as it works for you though, it doesn't really matter.

That's an advantage, but to be honest, I've only really dones fighting in FW areas where any anomaly opened up will appear on overview without having to scan. That's deffo something I'll keep in mind in other places though, thankyou Smile

Doing it in warp: awesome, and I did not even think about that.

as for, vs doing it from the map scanner.. I view this as simply another part of the d-scan toolbox. There will always be a situation where doing it from your map makes more sense.. But in many scenarios this method is quicker

For example with my method you cannot scan system-scanner results (sigs/anoms)..

As someone else mentioned, once you set the camera angle up once it is persistant and becomes quick.

CCP Patch notes indicate the mechanics of the camera will change slightly in this mornings patch. I hope it does not break this :) (I think it will probably just fix some bugginess surrounding the use of the 'c' key and how/when the camera tracking mode engages.. won't know until I get home from work :)

I was kind of hoping no one would notice this. I've been doing this from day one. It's awesome.

Ha ha... I even made a post about it, but it got swamped beneath topics about UI and Drone changes. It's true the map is still a usefull tool, checking out what's on an anomaly for example, since they can't be clicked in the overview or otherwise gain camera focus. I did notice the map control is more tight now, it takes considerable less fiddling to line up a celestial.

to be fair i was debating keeping this to myself too, but got sick of explaining it to every new alliance member who came on >_<

It's also pretty funny that several people are trying to tell me the old method is faster.. If you think it is, you're not comprehending the mechanics of this

anyways, glad some of you see the value of this.. !

Actually, the new camera mode was a stealth decloaking buff for interceptors....but who cares about things like that....

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
