Caldari or Gallente?

Let me just start off by saying...I'm a noob and I'm looking for some advice...
I am having issues deciding wether to fly caldari or gallente.
The main issue is I love missiles but I have heard (read) that missiles are not the greatest for PvP.
The second issue is with the exception of the Manticore, Tengu, Raven, Corax, and Scorpion (and a few others) I do not like the way Caldari ships look.
And the final issue, with the exception of the Dominix, I really like the way the majority of Gallente ships look and I really like the whole idea of drones.

As a note, I plan on getting involved in PvP as much as possible.

So the question is....Caldari or Gallente? Any experiences with either or any advice whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

If you want PvP go with gallente, unless you want to sit in a Falcon/Rook and **** off people

The Gallente is strong with this one.

Ill give some proper advice then. You dont like the look of caldari ships, you are in federation navy, you want to PVP and you like drones. The obvious choice is Gallente. Also ive never heard that missiles suck in pvp, although perhaps they do now since the expansion, but I wouldn't let that make your decision anyway.

Gallente are putrid. Fly their ships if you like stinking green flying phallaces, also being smoten by missiles fired from far beyond your range.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

I'd like to provide a different angle. Hit up the EVELopedia and have a read up on the history of each race. Get into the context of the game and choose a race you'd want to play and enjoy immersing yourself in rather than choosing based off ship types. :)

if you are gonna do mainly PVE i suggest caldari. cos drones got majorly shafted by latest patch that added npc AI somekinda directive to EXTERMINATE every drone in the field 5 seconds after they are launched...

for pvp id say go gallente.

Louis wins for being the first to say it.

Also, Caldari is latin for "lack of gank" P

I'm sorry but i can't agree with that advice. The backstory is almost neglible when you play. There is very little roleplay element in the game, so rather find a ship/playstyle that you like.

With ship i mean: do you like speed/evasion-> Minmater, Armour + Lasers-> Amarr, Short range brawl+drones-> Gallente, ...
Playstyle: combat vs NPCs, combat vs other players, industry/research.

Try a little bit of it all, and then specialize in what you like doing/flying, but don't lock yourself in 1 style.

I for example do mainly missionrunning in Gallente ships (i like drones and railguns), but also dabble a bit in mining and building things.

Thanks everyone, so far I'm leaning Gallente. But a little bit of a follow-up question...
I like long range, is it viable to take, say a Megathron, fit it with 2 launchers and Rails, and stay at range? Or if that's what I want to do would Caldari just make so much more sense?

Thanks again for all the feedback.

Then go Gallente... buffs and nerfs are gonna come and go, whats hot today might not be it tomorrow. You are going to be looking the you ships for a really long time, you might as well pick something the looks nice.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

You nailed it right on. Find what you like and gain the skill and power to enjoy it. following the nerf buff nerf buff crowd is for people who lack proper playing skills.
