I am a mission runner are working on the LV4 missions. I think CCP did a great job on the new weapon sound especially the Hybrid Weapon sound and the camera tracking mode with the new restyled targets and brackets so that the game now looks like a movie .

But I dont like the new visual and sound effect of the NPC ship explosion,it seems n sounds so fake(hong hong of the echo do u guys like it?by the way I have an advanced sound card in my computer n all my graphic settings are high) ,I prefer the old one rather than the new. When the NPC's ship got exploded,no fireball (can u imagine that NPC'S BS got exploded without a blow up fireball then extinguished like small fireworks?) and the debris of the ship disappeared so fast ,it's unrealistic in the universe.

To be honest this part's visual/sound effects even have no comparability with the previous version INFERNO!!! Plus the old fake building explosion visual effect still have no modification (little bit disappointed about this) in RETRIBUTION,dose any mission runner have the same feeling with me??

It sucks from a distance. Close up it is ok, but from a distance it sucks.

Yup,thats very ture! I also heard the explosion effect from close but it sounds so bad of the explosion echo from a distance,it was not like an explosion,I cant describe what that explosion sounds like.....so weird sounding!!!
Hope CCP can fix the very terrible ship explosion effect and the explosion echo!!!

Worst thing is, unlike weapon sounds there is no option to tune explosion down. Even when zoomed out they are fairly loud.

In missions - where a ship pops every few seconds - this is annoying as hell.
I always play eve with sound, because it gives away a little intel (gates/wh etc.) and mostly adds atmosphere. But the new explosions make me reconsider...

Exploding ships doing POIIING sounds are really great. Like a brick thrown in a empty metal bucket, best comparison i can think of. Honestly....WTF?

Why cant we add our own sounds? I doubt anyone could/would manage to assign a worse sound to a ship explosion.

yeah its like living in a abandoned factory warehouse and the wind i slamming a metal door over and over and over and over.
it gave me a headache until i turned off world sound.

congrats on making the most annoying sound ever inside a game since the commodore 64 (yes im that old).

Heh, another C64 oldtimer here.
And yes, CCP managed to rise the bar higher in annoying sounds department.

Distant second place.

CCP employee A: We have too much players, lets chase them away.
CCP employee B: I have a cunning plan for that. Annoying sounds :)

New explosions are bad all around... The blast is tiny, the debri that flys out looks like something silly from d3, and the sound effects sound nothing like an explosion. All in all this is sub par shotty work... What's even more annoying is that swathes of people spoke up about this in feedback threads and on the test forum long before retribution went live.

Well, standard CCP procedure. Ignore bad comments.

And just found out, salvaging a wreck makes the same POOOING sound.

Why go all the trouble at making new sounds if noone in the company has the balls to say they suck. Did CCP Hillmar made them himself? Its like George Lucas all over again....

P.S. - D3 is fun, if you kill something its head fly's off. Arm, legs, the works. But if you kill a 500+ meter big ship, it farts in space and disintegrates with POOIING sound :)

The whole PONG sound just sounds very strange. It also comes out very loud. I can see the explosion in the distance but regardless of where the explosion is on screen (or off screen for my surround speakers) I hear it dead centre.

Just doesn't sound right.

To me the explosion sounds like I'm jettison a container or something, a rather strange sound indeed.

Agreed, I have to turn the audio off, this explosion sound just drives me up the walls...

I was really hoping to find a checkbox or something to deactivate it... It doesn't even feel like part of an explosion audio, more like an achievement notification seeing as it's strength is not related to how far you are from the explosion... (always max strength)
Now there are trolls outside stations autodestroying to annoy people with that audio...

Got to love a missed opportunity... CCP spends the art team assets on new effects that are worse than the ones they replaced...

Think scale here ccp... These are multiple hundred meter long ships exploding... They should not be an annoying "pop" sound with a little puff of white smoke, there should be a rather significant flash followed by a bass heavy thud. Larger ships such as bcs and BS should also not explode all at once, they should break apart spewing debris just before a large blast. What you've introduced caters to the exact opposite of the scale of these ships. These new explosions make ships seem even smaller and even more "toy like" than before.

All in all I give these new explosion effects (sound and visual) an amazing 2 out of 10.

I have sound shut off as a normal practice, so it doesn't bother me.

/golfclap for CCP. Most of this entire expansion has been a failure outside of some of the new sound effects and ship models, and Crimewatch which is alright.

EDIT: Well, I was pissed for awhile after Retribution but I've calmed down and I think most of the comments I've made about it are unfair. Retribution is actually pretty darn good, aside from, yes, the damn bad explosion sounds and effects.

By their fruit you will recognize them.
