EVE on a netbook?

Is it currently possible to play EVE on a netbook? It'd be nice to be able to do something constructive with the 90 minutes I spend on trains each day, but I'm worried that EVEs graphic requirements might be a bit too high for the poor ickle things..

Any (nice) suggestions?

I played eve on an Acer lowest spec netbook during fanfest.

about 15 fps in station and 23fps outside. turn off all grafix and effects and you can mine, chat or run PI with ease

Yes it is possible. I did it a couple years ago. Screen size makes it bad for PVP ro PVE, but skill training and such are fine.

Yes, as others have said, it is possible to run eve on a netbook.

I have done so on a few occasions when I couldn't get to my normal pc.

Also, as they have said, you can do simple things such as queue skills, PI, S&I, chat, but not much else.

The Shader Model 3 requirement has shut out many early netbooks.

I wish CCP would make some sort of thin client to be run on notebooks or tablets. For skill training, market check.. industry.. etc.

Also one day the system requirements of EVE will increase again and if you just bought a netbook that barely fills the current minimum requirements you might be forced to replace it or quit.

People should stop buying netbooks expecting to be able to play any 3d gfx based games. They aren't made for that. If you want to play games/Eve then spend the extra $200-300 and buy a laptop. Netbooks are designed to be low performance for web browsing, email, writing docs, etc. Not gaming.

I've played on many netbooks over the years, sometimes even dual accounting.

It's not ideal, but the main issue is that the resource requirements are much higher since Incarna, even with CQ disabled.

You'll want one that supports resolution of 1366x768

Whatever "dev" it was that removed the pod squish sound probably never even logged into the game.

My Acer Aspire On eplayed well enough to pve on for almost a year and a half, tehn with teh last patch it finally stopped, its to do with what your GFX is. there used to be a tester on site somewhere, use that.

So, the answer is - maybe. Do the spec test, I think it is mostly to do with what shader model your netbooks on board can use.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

Yeah, cause everyone knows laptops are where its at for 3d gaming.

More complicated, but you can also try connecting to a remote session running on a higher end machine at home or wherever (i.e. thin client on netbook).

It can still sometimes have resolution problems (depending on the netbook; the larger 12" ones are fairly reasonable though) but it does away with much of the "on-board performance" problem, shifting it to "must have a somewhat bigger connection" (not usually an issue) and "introduces a bit of lag" (often not as much as people think) and "a bit more complicated to set up and requires another system" problems.
