Tier 3 BC's - Don't Pigeonhole Them!

First let me say the new BCs sound AWESOME. The Tornado is pure sex, and I'm sure the other ships will look amazing too. And battleship guns?? F'in win.

I just wanted to make one suggestion, and I hope CCP hears this and considers it before they finish development and it's too late.
Make the new BC's viable with medium guns as well.

While the idea of putting oversized guns on your ship sounds awesome, it may be of limited use in the current metagame. They wouldn't be very effective against smaller ships, and you wouldn't be able to field them against standard BS fleets because they're a lot more fragile. I don't want them to end up being that ship that you bought just because it was new and cool, but you rarely undock because it has very little practical use.

When you run into a tier 2 BC nowadays, you have a general idea of what to expect but you can never know for sure. Is that Drake HAM/buffer fit? Or is it HML nano? That Myrm, should I bring neuts to counter its armor reps? But what if it's buffer fit? Hurricane - armor or shield tanked? I want these new ships to be something I can use everyday, something as versatile and effective as the current tier 2 BCs. I want these tier 3 BCs to make the tier 2 BCs as obsolete as the curret tier 1 BCs are. I want these ships to LIVE UP to their current hype!

These are just my thoughts, but I hope they resonate with other members of the community as well, and that CCP at least considers this before they roll out these new ships.

That is all :)

We might as well get rid of all ships and just make the Tornado do everything if we take your advice.

I expect that you will be able to use medium weapons just fine, but that the bonuses will apply to large weapons. As for fitting, they are probably going to use the stealth bomber trick of reducing fitting requirements for large weapons instead of giving the ships huge amounts of base grid/cpu. That should still leave enough fitting to go for medium weapons if you so choose.

Hopefully they allow the fitting of the big guns with raw grid vice a SB bomber power bonus.

That way you can fit large armament for max gank.....or tank the living **** out if it with medium guns, plus the customary command bonus and its good to go.

I wonder what the slow layout is going to look like.

One word:

Snipers.

That's what comes to my mind. Big glass guns using speed, low signature and distance as a defense.

That's actually pretty much what I'm afraid of, I don't want these to JUST be snipers.

WTF are you talking about. No one said they would be Snipers. Torps, Auto's, Megapulse, Blasters all fit too.

If you want medium Guns there are 8 other Ships designed for it.

I am willing to let Tier 3 BC's only fit the 20 or so roles they conceivable have now. Hint not all of them are Sniping, use your imagination.

7/10, not bad, not bad at all, would certainly fool the unsuspecting casual player.

Unfortunately it's pretty obvious what would happen if CCP took your advice Lol

The only way to but Battleship guns on a battlecruiser is to have a role bonus allowing it, that makes it hard NOT to pigeon hole them.

Oh my god I cannot say ANYTHING on this forum without it being ridiculously construed beyond its original meaning. Unless you're a CCP dev, you and I BOTH have no idea as to the specific stats of these ships or how they will ultimately fit into the metagame. I was just voicing a FEAR, something that I HOPE will not come true. That's all. Go be ******** in a different thread please.

And my fear is that they will use medium weapons and will obsolete the other ships and was voicing my fear.

As well you under represent what Large weapons can do to make your point.

Which is why God evolved Target Painters and drones.

Have to confess to being intrigued how these will be used, but then that's the point isn't it? Emergent behaviour from rule interplay?
