Retribution: the death of bookmark handling?

I doubt many of these were intentionally trying to nerf bookmarks but could you at least file an official bug report and the paste the number here so that if a dev happens to come across this they can track the issues internally?

I make most of my ISK by creating, and selling, bookmark packs to corpies and alliance mates. Due to this business, I have copied tens of thousands of bookmarks and, as a result, have become rather efficient in doing it.

Now, it would seem to me that the already ridiculously cumbersome bookmark handling was just made a couple notches more impractical to use with Retribution. Currently:

- You can only copy a maximum of 5 bookmarks at a time
- Retribution re-introduced the bug that you can't copy bookmarks into a container by shift-drag'n'dropping them on the name label of the container (you can copy them directly inside the container, though)
- Retribution also introduced a hard-limit on the number of bookmark copies allowed over an unspecified period of time (copy them faster and you'll get an error message telling you to wait between 1-10 seconds before trying again)
- The above-mentioned feature is broken - if you get the error message you can no longer copy any bookmarks anywhere until you relog
- Before Retribution, when you selected a range in People and Places, that range remained selected after the copy, making it easier to see what was the last bookmark you just copied. Retribution took that feature away - as soon as you copy the bookmarks, the range selection is cleared.

I don't know about anyone else but, personally, I'm not a big fan of the direction bookmark handling seems to be going as these changes are making it effectively impossible for me to continue making ISK by selling bookmark packs to other players.

Anyone else feel like the bookmark handling could be improved - in a player-friendly way?

tl;dr: CCP is making it increasingly more difficult to copy large amounts of bookmarks in any sensible way - or time - please fix.

CCP hasn't made a secret over their attempts to discourage copying large amounts of bookmarks, the most obvious step being to introduce corp bookmarks.

If your bookmarks were of any real importance, they would be corp bookmarks. If you wish people outside your corp to have them you need only make one copy for their entire corporation.

If your bookmarks are deemed unimportant enough to be corp bookmarks, then just cut it out you lag inducing Cretin... or live with it being cumbersome.

Sympathy was nowhere to be found.

So, you're saying that 250 bookmarks should be enough for everyone? That isn't enough to cover a single region.

I know, some people don't like bookmarks at all but I prefer flying my ships intact.

I've absolutely no idea what you are talking about; bookmarks are stored on the server, how do you macro those? Also, no, I create my bookmark packs by actually flying through the regions, creating ping spots at every gate, station and so on.

So your organization always has all of it's pilots warp to the exact same perches and just off grid pounce points.

Good to know. Big smile

What if one wants to copy corp bookmarks to duplicate them in another corp in the alliance?

If his bookmarks were really that important he would make them alliance book. Since he can't it doesn't matter if they are corp bookmarks. He still has to copy it for the other 1000 people in his alliance.

back in my day, you didn't do bookmarks, bookmarks did you.

also, back in my day I was taught not to rely on bookmarks, instead rely on your wits and your trusty covert ops cloak.

Then he just needs to make one copy per corp. However, he is in the business of selling them to all comers, not as a corp or alliance service.

People in his lag inducing line of work are the reason why bookmark copying mechanics are more restrictive now.

Now to be fair, a couple of his points sound like minor bugs in the system... which is fair enough and likely will eventually get fixed.

I'm just pointing out that it shouldn't be too difficult to understand if CCP takes additional steps at some point to make mass copying of bookmarks even more tedious or time consuming. It's an annoying lag generator.

On a more personal level, I'm always in favor of a corp making a selection of key bookmarks availble via corp bookmarks, but I tend to tell people trying to sell them to my pilots (to line their own pockets) to knock it off.
