First of all, congratulations to the winners and huge respect for everyone who put enormous amount of effort and dedication into this tournament.

Here is the story.

The rest of Hydra wasnt making a team and a few DS friends approached me to make a joint team so we did. The first match against Huns went fine, second match against Ronin was really surprising for us because we didn't expect a turtle setup at all and it knocked us into losers bracket.

We had a pretty tough road ahead of us but we managed to win both elimination matches the next Saturday while fielding Vangels once, then we won both the elmination matches the Sunday after managing to knock out the ATX winners.

The following weekend we knew we had to win 3 straight in one day and we managed to take out Team Liquid and beat Ronin once in matches with a lot of emphasis on kiting, our third match again against Ronin didnt go so well. We felt we made some piloting mistakes that cost us and that we could've won if we flew a bit differently (tackling bcs/vargur with nhs and damping all three and scimi while taking out support to protect our basi) but maybe all the stress got to us and we did it too late after everything was already on top of our logi. Well played to Ronin though you guys are a tough opponent.

Our goal going in was to win first place and when we got knocked into the 3/4 match we weren't as hungry as before and just decided to have fun with the setups and try different things. The vindis were a lot of fun to fly so we kept rolling the dice and used an oracle setup we hadn't really tested and it didn't work out. We went to something conservative for the last match to try to win but it didn't do that well against what the Goggles brought. Congrats to them on their 3rd place finish.

Overall this was a pretty interesting tournament and it was a lot of fun but also very stressful preparing for it. Having to run the gauntlet and try to win 7 matches in a row was really tough and we almost made it but just fell short. The banning rule adds a great dynamic and I expect it will become a staple. Well played to all our opponents and thanks to my team for all the work they put in.

My dream team:
GTusk - Amazing FC and friend, always advised me when I needed it.
Helen Connor - Logistics pilot, the only thing that can stop him from keeping ships alive is the arena boundary.
Pandi - Cold-blooded damage dealer, feels as if he can overload his guns for the entire fight.
BSL - EAF pilot, easily wins damp war solo versus four ships.
Nebula XII - Cool all-around pilot, finally found a place to use large blaster specialization V in the modern Eve. Flew a Vangel right beside me.
Vizirion - Another great EAF pilot and an old guarde pilot I can trust.
Ice Tim - Dedicated tengu pilot, a bit shy :D
VoZzZic - Always helpful with moral support :)
Roger Dodger - Great sense of humor, very reliable pilot.
ThePiratEBay - Probably one of the best frigate pilots in Eve. The only Malice pilot that survived in this tournament.
Quorthon Seth - Great pilot, always advised me when I needed.
xo3e - Out of box theorycrafter, also his sabre is amazing.

And huge thanks to Garmon and Duncan Tanner, who taught me well and always helped when I really needed it.

Thanks CCP for organizing this. I hope in the future the testing process can be streamlined to lower the barrier of entry to these types of events. Hopefully the scheduling and double elimination bracket format will be optimized as well for the future.

I really hope we receive one of these from all of the teams that made it deep into the tournament. A fantastic read! Thank you for the post HaartSp and thanks to your team for the amazing tournament performance (you guys circling like sharks in one of the matches and then pouncing in for the kill was one of the most beautiful things I have seen in an EVE tournament EVER) and for your support behind the tournament.

I can safely say the event wouldn't have been as good without you guys and I hope to see you again in future tournaments!

GF and great job from your side guys.

Any tournament would not be the same without Hydra or Darkside.
As I was monitoring this forum, I noticed your activity so I was happy knowing that you guys will show up.
I was concerned about Darkside not coming, however it turned out well.

I really hope to meet you and your team again in future tournaments.

Ok, now that I'm almost sober and able to type or talk without laughing hysterically, I want to add a few words to the wonderful post Haart gave us above.

First of all, I want to say THANK YOU to all my teammates. Of course we knew each other for a long time and fought together (or opposite) for even longer, but never before, even while practising for ATX with the DarkSide. part of the Expendables team, had I felt such strong desire to work hard and win this tournament coming from every single one of us. We've put so much effort in the training process, so much nerve and passion in the fights on Tranquility, that even if we were unable to actually win some shiny prizes - we've managed to gain something more valuable. We became a bunch of brothers-in-arms, men who came through so much stress and such trials that we will never forget that month. At least I won't for sure.

It would be unfair not to mention our friends who helped us practice on SiSi. Without their help we would've never managed to get this far in the tournament. Thank you, Gothic, Galakan, Orioniys, Leglius, Soul Surgeonny, Bilaz, Tester, Duncan and all of you people who supported us during that month. Thank you, guys.

When I first asked Haart if he would like to make a Hydra-DS team, it seemed that we will mostly theorycraft together, maybe make some practice fights on test-server and then just spend some weekend nights having GFs-on-demand in the Jove region. Next day after he agreed to participate we've already had a forum full of setups, skype conference flooded with smacktalk and EFT warriorship, wormhole and espionage plans and three to five trainings a week set up. And everything went in motion...

Almost every day we argued until 2AM, we've had ban schemes for almost every possible combination of ships, we felt almost invulnerable. It was a rough lesson when we tried to rush Ronin's BATTLETURTLE and lost. We now had no right to make another mistake, and the pressure became really strong. Right before the match with GHSC, when we decided to bring our cute vangel-malice setup, I've almost grown grey tbh while imagining I won't be able to rep 'em up.

Match came after match, and it looked like there will be no end to it. I was so stressed out and felt so much pressure that I actually felt relieved in situations when we decided to bring a no-logi setup. That f-up condition combined with the fact that I had not practiced flying Scimitar enough during this tourney led to my glourious piloting mistake which cost our team the match.

All in all I think we managed to make some really good fights, and though we were not able to perform with our 100% efficiency (especially me, lol) this time, I hope some day in the future I will be able to watch our team wrecking some poor lads in the finals not from beyond the Edge of Glory, but from some cozy spot right next to it, repping the shields up.

See ya all in the next NEO.

You guys were an outstanding team, and to be honest our matches were more interesting than the 1st/2nd place finals. I think we should both be quite proud of ourselves for that.

But also, you guys put up a tough fight and I am thankful for the fun I had this weekend thanks to you guys. Much love guys, and I will see you in the next New Eden Open.

Thank you to you and your team for participating in the first ever NEO. Watching you compete and getting the chance to interview you were equally enjoyable. Even with a 4th place finish you were one of the most exciting teams to watch. Bro sumed it up the best with:
