Hey everyone.

Ive recently started playing EVE, so far, I love it.

However one of the most annoying things is trying to get the best Overview setup that I can for Mining and Missioning. Since those are what I like to do most.

Ive been activly messing around with it, trying to figuire it out for myself using youtube and other sites as guilds, but non of them are consistant with each other. Aside from that, their always worried about lag, so the put the bare minimum on thier overview. Im not worried about lag, so Id like to have whatever I'd need to for mining in my mining tab, and for missions in my missions tab.

Can anyone help me set the perfect Mining, and Missions tabs? Id greatly appreate it, thanks.

I am not an expert, but I will tell you some of the things I do to make the overview a little easier for me to use.

Mining is a simple one so will start with that; select the ‘mining’ default to start, then add ships in fleet and stations for quick ‘warp to/dock’, remove and add roid types as needed. I also find that adding velocities is helpful and then sort by velocity (brings anything moving to the top); this has the added advantage of making you immediately aware of new players on grid (friendly or not).

For missions I like to add a tab that has only rats displayed. I can then sort them by size or distance as the room progresses. IE killing all the friggs first to get the nastiest of the scrammer and Webbers off the field first, then I switch the sort to distance to deal with the closest first, working my way to the lowest priority last.

Primarily the first tab should have stations, gates and ships so you can easily find the next ‘warp to’, as well as have a short list of safe spots. Alternating to this tab when an uninvited guest comes into a mission area or asteroid field gives you a list of options for quick decisions. As a Minmatar pilot I like having ‘transversal’ on my overview this gives me a reasonable guess as to whether switching my guns to that target is going to give me a hit or a frustrating miss due to lack of tracking.

Removing cans from this list will make some of the more popular gates (with 50+ cans out advertising god knows what) a lot easier to find your ‘warp to’ and avoid what you don’t need. One last tab for planets, moons, beacons and what have you, anything you might need to customize the overview for to complete a simple task, and then switch back to the overview tab for the specific need of the task. This will give you 4 tabs that cover pretty much all of the day to day needs of a highsec carebear.

Setting up these tabs will also familiarize you with the settings window and make future overview tasks much simpler for you to do on the fly. Remember to ‘save the current setting’ after making changes you want to keep. Also keep the specific Exclusions in the back of your mind so you don’t find yourself looking for a can in a mission that won’t appear in your overview because you excluded it.

Not sure if this was helpful or just added to the confusion, in the end, your overview is how you perceive EVE, it doesn’t have to work for everyone, only you.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

regarding mining: you should bookmark random asteroids in the belt so that you can warp to 0. you should also fit a survey scanner and target from there instead of the overlay.
with these two adaptations, the overlay becomes irrelevant when mining.

I should buy an Ishtar.

This isn't true if someone's Orca boosting you, as the Survey Scanner only reaches out to 15km while bonused strip miners go over 20km range.
