Places to learn incursions?

No matter how i try, what fit i have, just because i haven't run an incursion the day they came out, i am seen as a pilot who cannot do them.
Does anyone run fleets in incursions just for the fun of it, and not for omg we MUST WIN, and absolutely MUST stomp all over the ai? Its getting pretty boring, all this incursion stuff in my captains quarters, and in reality, i have zero chance of getting into a fleet.
I have no knowledge behind logi, but i would even happily train and fly logi if i there were even a glimmer of hope i could get a fleet.

I respect that people hate taking longer than required, or full on failing, but the whole mind set behind incursions and fleets is actully rather sad.

You do have to consider that ppl are flying hundreds of millions (if not billions) arround in those incursions.. loosing that because they took a new guy is not that what everybody wants..

Back in my Incursion-days, BTL Pub had a nice motd with shiny links to basic knowledge - try to find it (maybe somebody will link it here) and read it first, then go out and ask again (with proper ship and fit).. In worst case you can train up for a basi or a guardian (both ships are recommended for incursion "noobs" since they can take a little more punch than the scimi), but don't expect to get in a fleet with Logi IV fast, it might take a while thanks to all the logi V pilots out there.

Incursions are a pretty sought after ISK machine so it takes a bit of patience to get in. If you’re looking to run logistics the requirement of Logistics V is not for experience so much as it is for sustainable repping power.

For instance a logistics V pilot can run 4 x T2 shield reps and 4 x T2 tracking links simultaneously with no cap stability problem on a scimitar. A similarly trained pilot can run 5 x T2 reps on a Basilisk. Conversely a Logistic IV pilot can only run 4 meta4 reps for 40 seconds on the same ship. Or it can be made moderately cap stable but incredibly weak 'Tank' with no tracking links.

The basilisk for a Level IV trained pilot requires a 4 shield rep 2 energy transfer setup to work, thereby requiring another Basi pilot to drop a Shield rep and add an energy transfer to keep the Level IV pilot up and running so the fleet loses safety margin for the sake of inclusion.

Predominantly a DPS pilot will find an incursion home quicker than a logistics pilot thanks to some griefers early on. They would assemble a fleet and then use a ‘box’ logistics to withhold reps and watch the fleet die for the LUL’s

There are several communities out there that are very inclusive of pilots regardless of the pilot’s skills and ship types. First you probably need to join some incursion community chats to get a good idea of what the fleets need and how you can fit in. For shields I would start with ‘Allied Incursions’ it is a fairly new community and I have heard they are very helpful to new members. Send a mail to JoeHangOver if you need more info on their channel and what they might require.

Older communities tend to have a strong following that has spent the last year or more perfecting their skills and earning some very shiny ships. Therefore they and are somewhat jaundiced as to what a new to incursion’s person can bring to the table. And often times have unreasonable expectation when it comes to fits and skills.

If that still doesn’t help contact me in game, I will see if I get you an intro through some other leaders I have saved in game. (sry on the pad can’t access it from here)

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

If you can fly a decent faction battleship, you can get into incursions

Channel name "The Valhalla Project" known as TVP is still going strong with fleets near all times of the day. I think you'll find helpful people in any of the incursion communities mentioned. TVP is friendly towards pilots new to incursions.

You're not kidding. The last time I saw an incursion opening in the TVP channel, 15 logi V pilots spoke up.

As someone relatively new to the world of Incursions, it may be useful to share with you what I've found out so far.

Like you I was initially scared of being ridiculed as a "noob" (hate that term) or not invited into a fleet. So I did my research first.

I can't quite tell from your post whether you want to fly Logi or DPS, but that's the first choice you need to make. That choice was made for me by my earlier training, so I went with DPS but I will eventually train towards Logi.

Don't be put off by the Incursion politics that shows up here in the forums. Out there "in space" it is nothing like the BS that sometimes comes across here. There are some really nice & helpful people out there & most importantly you will have a lot of fun & learn new things every time you go out.

Goldilee (from ISN) responded to you earlier & she was the first person I contacted direct when I was researching this adventure. There are many such people in the Incursion community.

My suggestion would be for you join the various channels (eg ISN, TVP, Lv6 etc) & just watch the interacton between the various people in channel. You'll soon find one or other group that suits you.

Once you've found a group that you are comfortable with, find out what you need to fly with then - ship, fitting, etc. I started with ISN straight up & they were great. Most of the other groups are the same.

Do your training (if required) & fit your ship likewise - be patient. There is also a lot of literature that you can read, to give you some of the knowledge that you'll need. You'll also need to become familar with TeamSpeak. That said there is no substitute for experience.

When you feel you're ready ask for an invite into a fleet. Tell the FC that you're new - they won't mind as a general rule. In my first fleet my ISN FC was really good & gave me some special help to get me through. In a very short time, you'll start to feel comfortable .

So far I've only flown with ISN & Lv6, but I will fly with other "organised" groups when it suits. My experience to date has been nothing but positive & most of all fun.

If I can help with any more direct information let me know.

Would say you've mostly got your answer, but thought I'd throw in that different communities have different requirements to fly with them.

Communities like ISN (Incursion Shiny Network) require you to have T2 guns, or Logistics 5 depending on what you fly, along with T2 tank and the like. TVP (The Valhalla Project) will take you as long as you have T2 tank generally, unless it's one of the HQE fleets that go for max isk/h. There's plenty of other communities as well, though I don't know enough about most of them to explain how they fly. I've flown with DIN a couple times only, they're a german community primarily, though they take anyone when they need ships.

I haven't flown with ISN myself, so I can't vouch for how they recruit for fleets (some use waitlist, others don't), though in TVP it's first come first serve when they drop the line and ask for new ships to fill the fleet.

They usually post a line like this:

HQ fleet looking for people (or something else)
=============================
(people x'ing up with fits below)
Here it's primarily a competition to be first, you can get into a fleet in 15 minutes or wait a whole day...

It's important to post a link to your fit (drag it from your fitting window) so the FC can check if your fittings are up to the standards they require. For help with fitting your ship there's mailing lists for most communities, and asking in the channel they use will also get you a lot of help towards improving it.

An important thing to remember is that while there might seem to be a lot of drama around certain communities, it doesn't affect you a lot as an incursion runner even if you fly with them.

Besides ISN and din and so fort there is also Allied Incursions.
If you are a more seasoned pilot i'd say take your change in ISN, if you a new ish pilot, try Allied Incursions, we train you up, help you with fits and we go from there.

To join us join the channel Allied Incursions Public and Allied Incursions Fleet
