Until DUST becomes something more than closed-beta vaporware (which has been in development for the better part of 4-5 years) and CCP starts talking to the community about their plans for it beyond some grey area, "The two games will connect!" stuff, I really don't see a point to a "DUST Player" running for CSM. I think it would be interesting to see someone whose primary focus was on a console only game running for the council of a PC only game though. Sure, give it a shot. Lol

TLDR - There are enough DUST bunnies on the CSM (or in contact with the CSM) already, or at least there were until Planetside 2 came out. v0v

Believe CSM had early access to Dust 514 anyway - I got in in Early June so I'd imagine CSM members got in before that to give it a shot.

Honestly though, I really don't like the idea of someone who is Dust 514 only (I.E. an FPS console gamer) having some form of control over Eve Online when they haven't even played it. My vote still remains on those players who (will be running for CSM) are avid in both fields, if at all.

Thanks for your comment Seleene - good to see the CSM itself is paying attention >=)

The CSM got DUST beta invites in the first wave of public invites. Several of us have played it, including me. I absolutely agree with Seleene, and you can read my comments on DUST in the minutes of the May/June summit.

Is this soft trolling?

DUST514 will be a legitimate part of Eve if it goes off well. It will impact the markets, sov, warfare and perhaps most importantly the meta game. It will generate tears. If we are very very lucky it will push New Eden even closer to being a truly dynamic living world where conflict and team work can erupt in every corner of space. That being obvious, why should they not be representated on the CSM whose job is to offer advice to CCP about how to improve the game? They will be able to complete the conversational circuit between POD pilots and DUST Mercs (is that what they are called?), thus offering CCP a more robust source of feedback.

Isn't the CCP DUST studio in, like, China or something anyway? How would a DUST player going to Iceland be helpful?

Since this is "one universe", if the DUST players can muster up the votes for "free trips to Iceland and passwords to dev chat", more power to them.

But I am sure there will be much popcorn and e-debate about this as the game moves from beta to something more concrete as there are only so many seats on the plane CCP is going to pay for.

DUST isn't EVE. Dust issues won't be the same as those from EVE. The Council of Stellar Management is there to represent the interests of EVE players and that is what is stated about it from CCP.

As such, if DUST needs some feedback mechanics to CCP, that should be from it's own body of representitives and not EVE's.

Or to put it another way, care to tell me what opinion a Dusty would have about POS revamps?
How about T3 ship balancing efforts?
What about missions in highsec vs lowsec vs plex's in wormholes and nullsec?
What about wardec mechanics?
...

Completely meaningless topics to Dust players yet having a lot of meaning to players in EVE.

On the reverse side we have troop weapons and vehicles.

Different games with different core developer teams, "some" shared mechanics yet the actual game issues that the players will be muttering about will be entirely different with very small areas of cross-interest.

No, the CSM should remain as EVE representatives and if Dust needs it's own reps, they can work with CCP on that side but we really don't need CSM minutes covering the fire rates of rifles debated for an hour when capital ship revamps would be at least of *SOME* interest.
