A new Super Cap -> Crew Freighter / Crew Carrier / (A true mothership)

Hello there!

I was sitting here one night with some corpies discussing an idea I had for a while now, and ... well quite frankly I thought I would share it with the nice people on EVE forums (hopefully giving me the chance to POSSIBLY get this ship idea in the game one day). The ship idea is, the Crew Carrier or Personel Carrier (again name is in the works).

Bridging is great and all, and definately simple aswell as effective, however its limited by fuel and is less.... "Epic"... so to speak, my idea was for a ship that players could essentially dock in, with a possible CQ (or... interraction with players...?) or ship hangar screen inside, that would allow for mass amounts of players to move from one region / system / area to another.

Example ->

Ship name: Covenant

Ship Race: Amarr

Ship Class: Crew Carrier / Personel Carrier (Mothership.... ? *wink*)

Hull: / Shields: / Armour: [Insert Values]

Cargo Capacity: [Insert Values]

Fuel Capacity [Average Super capacity]

** Docking Bay Capacity ** (Stars for new hangar bay) : [insert the values for maybey 20+ people or more in BC's]


This is just an example, and I understand that there are extreme balancing and bug issues with such a ship design, however I feel that with the inclusion of a jump bridge style timer on docking / undocking from the ship and some limitations on the specifics of how it deploys and where (much like figer bombers + Directional bombs in low sec) would make it viable.

Titan Bridging would still remain incredibly effective, as these new ships would have to be extremely difficult to aquire at any form of subject (be it industry or price wise), and limitations on high fuel needs could also be included.

The basic idea is to create a Super to do what Titans in the backstory are supposed to be able to do, but for capsuleers and without removing the "GODHAMMER" effect they are supposed to have, essentially a PLAYER populated Super with troop moving facilities.

Please consider my idea, and feel free to ask any questions on it, I would like for CCP to atleast take a look before the innumerous threads are piling upon this post :P

The core code of EVE has issues (see: commits suicide) with having more than one player in one ship at any given time.

Maybe this might change... but given that this is buried somewhere in the legacy code I wouldn't hold your breath.

So your essentially looking for a massive spacebus ?


I can get behind that ... Just one problem if you want it to be super expensive ... then why not just use a titan ?

Would be nice to have a tool to transport pilots and their ships around in small group (20) of battlecruisers for example.

You could add a size limit to docking area so that you could bring 10 battleships or more smaller sized vessels.

Upon reading this post I feel like you are trying to reinvent the wheel here. All you want is another bridge just to move player inside a ship. Let’s say it become reality u jump your ship into a hot zone now everyone will have to undock from that ship then engage instead of jump lock targets engage. Now I could see a mobile structure inside a POS that u can dock up in more of an idea and use is as a Forward operating base. Even then a POS has all the same equipment you need for that.

If you find yourself in a fair fight in EvE your tactics suck!!!

Hm... I guess it is not so bad idea.
BTW, in this case ordinary bases must be destroyable

@thread - Yeah there would have to be some limitations, just adding a spacebus as Cedo calls it would be sort of OP without some way to stop abusing it from occuring, however I still think the idea would give rise to an easier deployment :P

Coding for multiple people inside one ship would have to be dragged up I agree, would be fun to see it done so though :)

Seeing 2-3 of these appear in system, and then anchor themselves, disgorging 20+ new hostiles to the fight, and then the fight ensuing would be an epic sight imo Big smile

@Rammes lol - Problem with POS's is they require set up and fueling to keep them online, and Sov related to use jump bridges, this isnt really that effective when you consider its entirely defensive, and only 1 jump bridge per system. Titans sort of change this, but then as I said above, I feel like the jump bridging system doesnt add enough epic / doesnt work all the time (cyno ship gets instablapped before bridge or mid bridge).
