those skill changes won't happen this expansion, and they won't happen for at least several months.

Basically, if you have the skills plugged into you head and trained, CCP will replace them with racial versions of dessy and BC's, so that you can still fly the ships you could before. So, for example, if you have Caldari Frigate 4 and Amarr Frigate 4 and Destroyers 3, you currently can fly the Coercer and the Cormorant. When the changes happen, you will have Caldari Frigate 4, Caldari Destroyer 3, Amarr Frigate 4, Amarr Destroyer 3, and will still be able to fly the Coercer and the Cormorant with exactly the same ship bonuses. This will be more skillpoints than now (as you'll have 2 destroyer skills instead of 1), and that's fine, they even calculated the maximum that people are going to gain.

If the skill is not in your head, but in your cargo hold, I'm not sure. They will probably replace with a random racial book.

What about the fellas who have BC5 at 25/30 days when the change happens?

If you only have BC at 4.

Then after the patch you WILL have to train all the racial BC skills up to 5 seperately (given that you already have the cruiser skills up so you get the racial BC at 4 with the change).

Well, it depends on what script they use, and we don't know.

1. If they use a script that checks for the level trained, then you'll get 4x Racial Battlecruiser at 4 (217530 pts each). If you think about it, your original BC skill at 25/30 days was 1,280,000 points, and divide that by 4 is 320,000 so you only lose a few points.

2. If their script actually transfers the skillpoints rather than just the level of the skill, then you'll get all 4 racial skills at 25/30 days.

I guess we'll see, I don't know.

In the dev blog discussion thread, CCP Fozzie already explained how they plan to implement the change. Unless there is a change in those plans, you will automatically get the new destroy/battlecruiser skills at the same level that you have trained the current destroy/battlecruiser skill trained. Partially training the current destroyer/battlecruiser skill will not help you, as only completed skill levels will count. In order to get the new destroyer/battlecruiser skills for each race you will also need the existing racial frigate/cruiser skill at level 3. The skill change is not happening next week. They are giving us plenty of notice so that we can be prepared.

As for the skill books, I have not seen any specific plans. However, I expect that they will clarify those plans before they deploy the change. They have not even announced when these changes will be happening. They are just giving us advanced warning that training destroyers/battlecruisers should be a priority if we want to take full advantage of the change.

I was under the impression that you need the current faction frigate/cruiser skills to level 4 to get the new faction skills for free, since the new system will mean that lvl4 faction frigate is prereq for faction destroyer, lvl4 faction destroyer is prereq for faction cruiser and so on..?

You will need the faction frigate/cruiser skill at level 4 to train the new faction destroyer/cruiser skills. However, existing players will be gifted with the destroyer/battlecruiser skills at the same level as their current destroyer/battlecruiser skill for each race where they have the frigate/cruiser skill at level 3.

For example, if you have Amarr Cruiser 3, Caldari Cruiser 5 and Battlecruiser 4, after the change you would lose the generic Battlecruiser skill and gain both Amarr Battlecruiser 4 & Caldari Battlecruiser 4. You would be able to fly an Amarr Battlecruiser with the same bonuses as before because the ships only require the Amarr Battlecruiser skill, but you would not be able to continue training Amarr Battlecruiser until you finished training Amarr Cruiser 4.

Thus the dev statements, that if you can fly it now you can fly it then.
