Few questions I'd like to ask

Hi all. I've been reading this forum since I started playing a few weeks ago and have found them to be a great resource. People responding to these threads are incredibly friendly and helpful.

So now that I've buttered you up I have a couple questions I'm hoping you could answer for me.

I am currently on the mission Chasing Shadows. Kristan Parthus blew up my Thrasher in my first attempt, it was a glorious battle and it could have gone either way at the end there. So I flew my pod back to the station ready to fit another Thrasher and go back for the kill. I know I could finish this in another Thrasher but I'm not going to do that. Instead my plan is to wait until I train up for a cruiser (Rupture) and go back and finish Kristan off in style.

Anyway I have been following this E-Uni guide here to get into a Rupture.

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Minmatar_Basic_Ship_and_Skill_Guide#Rupture.2C_PvE_T2_Shield

I'm just curious is this guide current? Is this a waste of time with the expansion looming on the horizon?
I imagine most of the recommended skills I've been training are useful either way but I'm wary because I've read choosing your skills is a long process and specializing as a new player is key.

Last of all on a completely unrelated topic... Today I sent my friend a buddy invite and he accepted! (I believe he only accepted in order to get me to shut up about trying Eve)

I was wondering if I will be able to run through the tutorials with him even if he chooses a different race? I finished Aura and the 5 Agents arcs already.

Thank you for reading, and any help is greatly appreciated.

rupture is a great ship, and the link you provided at first glance appears to be a very good starter rupture.

you shouldnt have a problem with your friend as long as you dont loose your security status to the different factions space locations.

but long term its probably better if you guys are either minmitar / gallante and or caldari / amarr.

please anyone feal free to continue on this topic...

edit ive never run arc's...

The Rupture is a fine ship and will still be good after the next expansion.
If he starts as another race he will start in another starter system. Simply fly over there.
Minmatar and Caldari will do well everywhere in PVE whereas Amarr and Gallente are more suited for fighting the PVE in their own space.

You could always start another char, you have three slots. I use two, myself. Maybe you would like to roll a support character? Maybe roll a Caldari and pick up some quick jamming skills? Even T1 frig EWAR is useful. Or start a trader, maybe add destroyer for the weapon slots to shoot and even run salvage operations with it. Then add industrial haulers to that later, add more market trading skills which is a common alt.

Then when your friend finishes, you can switch back to your main. Later you might find it useful to train that alt for some use, like mentioned.

So alts like:
Trader (very common) - markets/hauling/salvaging
Explorer - scanning/Cyno Gens
EWAR - jamming/tackling
Miner - mining/building
Faction alt - frig/destro combat with low clone cost

Most will do well enough with 2-3M SP in the long-term, but even useful under 1Mil to start.
If you ever start a second account, you can always transfer it over if I'm not mistaken. An explorer would be very useful if your main trains caps, or a miner is common for an alt account. Mine I do an explorer/trader/ewar main and a frig/destro alt, no plans to open a second account.

I'm in it for the money

For the future when you die in a mission:

NPC's don't attack your pod, so take the time to bookmark the wreck of your ship. You may be able to come back to the location and loot / recover half or more of your modules / guns / ammo, which if you're using the higher quality versions, can be quite expensive.

If you had REALLY expensive stuff fitted, it may be worth more than the rewards from the mission. If you have the location bookmark for your wreck, you can fail the mission, which will delete from space all the NPC's, roids, etc. And then you could warp to the wreck in a ship with some cargo space, to recover your stuff. Wrecks remain after a mission is handed into the agent (either completed or failed).

EDIT: Regarding your friend, just fly to the solar system where he is, and after he finishes his tutorial he'll be sent to his career agents (different station). Follow him, and I believe those agents will talk to you too, if you don't have horrible negative standings with the empire they belong to. You can improve your standings by training the skills Connections and Diplomacy, and in fact anything under the Social group helps with missions standings in general.

Instead of getting the missions again (which you can), you can also just let your friend get the missions, and help him do them. Form a fleet together; you can see each other's ship health and status, warp to each other, etc. He can do missions, you can assist by shooting the enemies, then he hands the mission in and gets the rewards. You already got all those skills and free ships from your agents, let him get his, he'll need them.

EDIT2: Rupture is a versatile ship; it can be fitted many ways. Typically if a ship has more low slots than mid slots, you want to do armor tanking instead of shield, but sometimes a passive shield tank setup works, with shield extenders in the mid slots (slots typically used for shields), and shield power relays in the low slots. Minmatar ships use projectile weapons, and projectile weapons don't need capacitor juice to function, so a passive shield tank that completely ruins your capacitor recharge rate in favor of shield recharge rate works often on Minmatar ships.

If you had to use an acceleration gate to get to the site the bookmark won't help

Really? They changed that? He abandons the mission then warps to bookmark and it won't work?

If the mission wasn't accessed via acceleration gate it would, otherwise the bookmark will just take you to the acceleration gate. Why do I know these things when the actual carebears don't seem to? I guess it's true.... carebears are stupid

Thank you.

Um, but if you complete/abort the mission with the agent, the accelleration gate is despawned along with all other mission assets, leaving just bookmarks in space, which you can then warp to.

I'll just check in game. I do remember being able to warp back to my wreck during the "this is how PVP is you lose your ship" tutorial mission, after handing it in.

First of all thank you for the helpful replies.
Good to know about recovering your wreck, ill be sure to bookmark them in the future.

Just wanted to add this: I did not use an acceleration gate during the mission. So I should be able to go back and loot my wreck even though its been a few days? I didnt save the bookmark but I know roughly where it is. Would it show up on the overview?

I still have the mission status as accepted and Kristsn Parthus is still roaming around, so I'm just a bit unclear if I could loot my wreck or no?

Should I just finish the mission first, then try to find it?

If you bookmark a wreck within a mission (or other site) accessed via an acceleration gate then warp to the bookmark while the mission is active, you will be taken to the gate. If you warp to the bookmark after the mission has been failed/completed, it takes you straight to the wreck.

That's why the 'bookmark wrecks, turn in mission, salvage wrecks' method works (and it does work)

Wrecks last about 2 hours or until downtime (whichever first).

Wrecks only show on overview if you're on-grid with them, if you don't have a bookmark to the wrecks (and you've turned the mission in or failed it) there's no way for you to warp to them.

p.s. If you need a hand with Kristsn Parthus (or with Dagan in a couple missions), give me a shout in-game if I'm online.

It seems you don't know so i guess it is you are stupid. You can warp to a spot in space after aborting a mission in exactly the way you can a completed mission, acceleration gates are irrelevant when they are not there. Stop trolling the noobs.

Not very high knowledge about those duct-tape ships here, so will leave that for others to discuss (only good information is information that is correct and not from hear-say.)

As for helping your friend out:

Yes totally possible if you have access to the faction space he starts in (so if you are -7 to Amarr it won't be, cause their Navy will hunt you). But in general, yes, just move over to his location, fleet up together and let him accept missions etc and you can just warp to him and help him out. (tip: don't share the rewards, he could use all the help from the missions as a starting character).

No you can't recover your wreck anymore. Because of 3 main reasons:

1.) Wrecks and containers only last roughly 2 hours after creation

2.) ALL wrecks and containers are despawned during downtime (even if made just 1 minute before that).

3.) You have rough idea where it was, rough in terms of space-dimension isn't good enough. Mission sites are spawned randomly, so unless you saved a bookmark during that mission or have a ship in that location that you can probe out you won't find it again.

EDIT:

Just read that you are still on the mission, which negates point 3 as you can warp to the mission pocket. Point 1 and 2 still remain.

Also want to add: If you haven't shot the final trigger of a mission, it will be reset during downtime.
