Sometimes when this happens its due to the hardware getting old and failing. Thats all i can really think of.

Being a Bethesda game, I think you should be worried if you didn't come across any bugs lol.

Hmmm, looks like assets or something didn't load correctly. Judging from the game, I'm betting, like most people, you have mods installed. It might be a lot of work, but I'd stay in that spot (or a spot with the same issue) and reinstall each mod one by one until it breaks again. If it looks like that without any mods, a file may be missing from the original game.

Age of a product and quality of the product are 2 different things, being new doesn't make it defect free.

Looks like a cooked video card.

But it should all be under warranty if it's only 6 months old, so it's really just an inconvenience.

while steam has many good things, I've learned one simple thing about it: when you finish dload something, do a sanity check on the game (verify integrity of game cache). it solves many things, like why those guys conversation didn't sound but you have the subtitles anyway.

What OS are you running and which version is the driver? It's a combination of the 2 is why I need to know.

Ah i see, I just had the same setup but I had a previous version of the drivers and I only updated because of upgrading to windows 8. Is there a way to get the previous version of the drivers? Not sure what version they were.

I had this same issue with WoW back in '05 with an ATI card. I had to revert back to a previous driver version to fix it. I've never had this happen to me with Nvidia thankfully.

Here is how you can rollback your drivers.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_rollback.html

If you can't do a rollback, here is a site that keeps the older versions archive for this very reason.

Yes, as soon as it was done reinstalling i validated the cache. Said 1 was missing and will be reaquired, this in its self is a bug as it never reaquires this item that is missing

any other ideas?

actually, Steam resets the skyrim.ini file every time you do a cache check, thus the file missing thing.

well, besides that all I can think of is a cooked gfx card. can you get someone to borrow you a card and check if the same problem occurs?

also, check motherboard drivers and stuff. who knows, it might help.
