Why do Armor Plates and Armor Rigs Affect Speed?

No-brainy ship/tank picking depending on engagement scale is not balance.

Now I haven't played in the last 4 months or so, but aren't maelstroms and rokhs both fairly popular (at least as much as their armored counterparts)?

Armor (or at least active armor rigs, come on ccp why hasn't that been fixed yet?) needs to have the speed reduction killed off. Replace it with some other penalty, but speed is too important to be on par with sig radius.

They could also do what perpetuum did (is that game still running?), which I thought was rather brilliant: For every plate you fit, webs affect you less, for every nano you fit, they affect you more. A rather simple fix that would let armor superiority in close quarters shine.

That is an interesting idea, but doesnt fix the problem . . . blaster ships are already completely dominant inside web range, the thing they have absolutely no way of doing is getting into web range . . .

if your drag racer has a 500 mph top speed but it's 0 - 60 in 20 seconds, increasing its top speed to 600 mph isnt gonna help you win races . . .

Tbh, I don't quite follow modern fleet trends, my note was a general one. If shield is dominant in small-scale and armour is flat-out better for fleets, it's not what I would call balance.

Promising rig changes were announced last spring, but CCP retracted them due to clueless whiners whinning too much about having to make trade-offs.
