UPDATE - December 07

Finaly saw the new explosions effect and my thoughts are divided:
- I think that new effects are nice but needs to be tweaked and adjusted. From up close they look really nice but from distance they can be easily overlooked (maybe bigger and stronger initial flash would make a difference)
- new explosions are somehow hollow and ned to be more "voluminous" if that would be right word. Like they are missing initial "bang". Work in progress on Fanfest 2012 was what I was hoping for
- also keeping old effects for structures explosion makes overall look and feel inconsistent

I really hope that CCP is going to improve those effects in near future.
All in all, everything else that came with Retribution looks great.

I tought that new explosions would be one of visually more prominent things in upcoming expansion.
But so far I didn't saw any mentioning by CCP officials about this.
Yes, there is some mentioning in Test Server Feedback part of forum but so far new explosion effects seem to be unimpressive and pale, at least not what is expected from them to be.

I am wondering if new explosions would be a part of 4th december expansion or they would be introduced in som of later post Retribution patches (Retribution 1.1, 1.2 ...).

Don't get me wrong, lot of cool features are coming with Retribution but New explosions are something I hoped for from the day they are anounced in FanFest 2012 (seems that everything else mentioned there found way to EVE - launchers, new missile effects, V3, ships redesign...).

Just couple of days before Retribution it seems to me that:
- new explosions would not be included in Retribution or
- that are not so good to even mention anything about them or, as I hope
- would be spectacular and are keept for Retibution trailer and final release on december 4th to be shown

Art Team respond would be nice but I think that maybe it's to late for that considering the things they have to do before realising Retribution.

So, does anyone knows whats going to be?

Unless the new ship explosions cause AOE damage, im uninterested.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I was talking just about visual aspect that in my opinion should be equally important as basic gameplay.

I don't understand why so much people are against any kind of visual improvements in EVE, or at the bast not interested in it?

Does it really take a devblog to say "New Explosions in Retribution"?

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

I would imagine it would be wrapped in a blog that also covers other graphical improvements, like the firing animations of the turrets.

I rather like the new explosions.
If you want to see them, it's rather easy to get on the test server. That, or you could wait until the 4th.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

The new explosions are rather sudden and meh. That should be NPCs. Players deaths should be slow and spectacular.

Don't get me wrong ... I liked the old explosions and the new ones I think are a bit more realistic.

But what really does a 15,000 ton, matter/antimatter powered (?), and armed hull explosion look like when it detonates ? In space? IDK. I do know that I shouldn't hear it. (wait, eve has sound - wth)

But I also believe that when something that big goes BOOM that something w/i a short range (<10k) should feel the effects of it. The closer you are ... the more you feel it. (take damage)

Well i do hope that an exploding frigate doesn't make the same sound of a can being jetted anymore.

I've been waiting for this for ages. Including for I could run my dying disco phoon into a group of tacklers on an allies ship and hit the self dustruct button to take a few of them, and drones off of him.

What I don't get is if a rifter is the size of a 747... why don't the new effects render like.... 2 explosions at the front end engines, then 2-3 more moving up the ship and THEN a big explosion?

They are meh and sudden, because they are there to remind you, that you are not a hero, you are defeated and not worth mentioning in history of EVE.

Just small "puff" in the whole universe. Cool

New explosions are in for Retribution.
In addition to the visual overhaul, they have had significant performance tweaks. Now when an entire fleet burns and dies, it should cause less of a performance hit for your client, while still looking amazingly awesome.
Also, you should destroy a Titan. Your eyes may bleed from the prettiness.

I have seen this and can confirm that my eyes started bleeding. We went to the doctor and he told me it was from "all the prettiness". When I told my girlfriend this, she wondered why my eyes never bleed when I see her and then left me.

But you're not addressing the massive amount of players who are trying every way imaginable to tell CCP that these new explosions are pathetic...at least for everything from frigates to battleships.

By their fruit you will recognize them.

Does everything necessarily have to explode?

It'd be nifty to see wrecks that haven't gone "kaboom".

Throw in 2-3 wreck types per ship over a period of time and see the spectacular factor rise by at least 10.

I'm going to call your bluff on this one.

There was no girlfriend, you're married to spaceships.
