I have issues on one of my machines.

Sager NP2098 Laptop
Windows 8 64-bit fresh install
AMD Radeon 4650
4GB Ram

The game will launch but the screen is black and occasionally flashing the actual graphics. Music plays and my cursor changes to the Eve cursor. I have to kill it in task manager to get out of it.

It works fine with my Radeon 7950 on my desktop.

It also works with my Xubuntu 64-bit (with legacy driver repo) install on that laptop so, I am chalking it up to AMD Legacy drivers + Eve being to blame.

The other 3D games I have tried on Windows 8 have worked without a hitch though. I was playing Torchlight II and Dota 2 the same day I tried Eve.

If you want some more logs let me know and I'll get them tonight.

I have the same problems. It only happens on my computer when eve is running on full screen and not in window mode.

My system is a dell xps12
Intel i5-3317U
8gb ram
only Intel HD-Grafik 4000

As you can see, the hardware rises above the recommended for EVE. Coding does not want to let me make that a hyperlink right now though... But anyway, that's my current PC.

Overall it's an improvement over my previous rig (which barely met - if at all - minimum specs), save for oooooone teensy glaring problem.

As soon as I get a LOT of things on screen, the client crashes and/or does not display proper module/ship information. The most recent offense has happened in a Mission: "Infiltraded Outposts" level 4. In the first room, the client froze after I shot a few angry drones, but I managed to get the client DOWN and re-opened fast enough to save my ship. Thinking it was fluke chance, I headed to the next room. Got through maybe 3 of the bazillions of frigates, crashed again. Relogged and upon entering the game a message displays that says I'm scrambled (naturally, this IS a level 4 mission) at which point I open my can of whoopass.

Now here comes the fun part: Rather than the client freezing again, it froze my ship speed and didn't physically display any scramble/webifier notifications above my shields/armor/hull like it normally does. I watched my shield tank crack and proceeded to call in my drones and initiate warp, only to find that I'm secretly scrambled and can't get out, and that my ship is going a mysterious snail's pace as well. All I could do was sit and watch my poor little Maelstrom get chewed up :(

~

So, other than an apparent connection/display/freezing/whateverthatwas issue when lots of enemies are involved, I'm not noticing many issues. For the most part the game runs smoother than before. Small engagements don't cause any problems, and I no longer encounter lag.

Hopefully this is helpful to someone somewhere, and I do hope that Windows 8 gets full support as soon as possible :)

I'm actually upgrading to W8 64 Pro version this weekend, any advice even the most basic one is the most welcome.

Stuff I keep:
Pross: I5 3.2GHz
DDR3 1600Hyperx 12GB
MB: Asus P7
GC: Gigabyte 460 GTX 2G DDR5 (OC version)

PP+regular peripherals being consumable I'm not really worried about. My worries are all about how to make this 64B version exploit at best pross/mem/GC resources to make Eve work perfectly with highest resolution settings. I'm not considering the internet connexion since this one is not a problem right now and shouldn't be after upgrading but can consider about upgrading to 100mB

Opinions about what I should take a good close look at before upgrading or while upgrading?
-software upgrades: AV - navigation security etc?

Thx in advance.

EDIT: I'm not actually upgrading from "x" windows version, I'm buying a full W8 pro version, thus installing in a new HD (sata 3TO 7200t/min 32Mo 6GB transfer), also keeping previous Win version in old HD while waiting for a full system stability.

Change done over the weekend (Lin here, new alt), while everything else seems faster than with my previous Vista 32 version Eve often freezes, goes from sacades while shooting rats in missions (high sec) or sites (null sec) to complete freeze for several seconds (3 or 4 sometimes +) which of course means I'm out of fleets or whatever pvp situation and this is really boring.

Set all the exclusions for Eve in FW/AV and whenever I run tasks admin my pross is never used above 7 to 12% and barely 2BG of mem from the 12GB available.
GC info seems normal and I have to run Eve in low settings (this sucks ass), I'm wondering if this issue has something to do with Directx or if it's the game coding it self.

Edit: I'm also experiencing some anoying graphic issues at undock or items in station:

-randomly, some ship or ships pictures are white, I can see the number if stack, T2 T3 or faction tag uper left corner of the picture but not the ship.

-randomly after undock or gate jump everything is black but grid, local, cargo and hud display. However ship hud sometimes shows 1/4th of shields/armour/structure damaged and mods don't blink when turned on.
Can right click on stargate in grid and "jump", then it's "inch alah" either everything gets back normaly, or stays black.

This is a fresh Eve installed version old for about 72h and updated.

i am also getting these issues although i think in my case the freezing issue may stem from the graphics card being overworked with 3 clients running on 2 screens, not entirely sure.

When i log into the account in space, into say a pos i get between 1-5 mins of black screen with nothing showing, total black screen, i get notifications about messages etc but nothing else is visible. When i log in into a station everything loads normally but when i undock i get the same issue as Sergeant Acht Scultz, my overview, chat, etc is all viewable but the rest of it is just black.

The interesting thing to note is that i have 3 accounts, this issue affects only one account. all 3 chars on that account however suffer from the problem i described above.

After submitting a petition i was given a potential solution which was to log into another account first then onto the one with issues. I logged into a char that was logged in a pos in a wh, loaded up fine, no issues. i then logged into another char on the account with the problems that was in the same pos in the same wh, the result was a black screen for about 3 minutes.

i was getting the undock black screen problem with the same account with windows 7 but not the logging on in space one. after upgrading to win 8 pro and in the process doing a full format, i downloaded and installed a fresh eve client. The issues still occurred straight away after undocking for the first time with win 8 pro.

Had a slight problem. Not 100% that its Windows 8 related.

Would click on EVE icon on desktop, and it would open up the launcher. Would then click the 'Play' button and it would 'depress' like I actually clicked it, but nothing happened. The odd part is, the night before, I was playing EVE, running 2 accts simultaneously, the launcher just stopped functioning.

The workaround if anyone should have this issue:

Go into your CCP folder in Program files ->EVE -> bin -> EXEfile

Launches the client directly, going around the launcher. No other issues to report.

My system specs:
Windows 8 64 bit - 6.2
Asus G75VW
Intel Core i7 processor 2.4ghz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 4gb of display memory, 2 gb dedicated, 2gb shared

Should be sufficient for our purposes here

Seems also when exclusion is set on AV for Eve.exe this one still scan client/website communications. Is there any solution to solve this? (https adress or whatever)

There is a solution here, Stick with Windows 7 to make Microsoft actually realize that just slapping a few shiny features onto an operating system explicitly designed for tablets and smartphones isn't acceptable.

You missed the point, it's not because it LOOKS like tablets software that it is one, and to me, not being computer expert at all, the problem doesn't come from windows8 at all. I only have this issue with Eve, nothing else where opposed to Eve, everything runs much faster and smoother than ever before.

Same internet, same speedtest results, vista 32 in an old IDE drive with it's huge resources appetite can make Eve run smoother and higher options than Win8 64 pro version in sata drive with a much higher performance level (don't know about the other ones) that is by large margin less ogre resources wise.

It's not either GC issue since it's the same in both windows versions. Not telling it's always CCP fault but seems there's an obvious issue with 64b versions and Eve.

I'm thinking about a computer upgrade, and would be highly interested to know if there are any issusing with EVE and Windows 8 XP Pro 64bit.

Note especially the 64 bit - bit, as I'm pulling out the stops on the PC spec, and I want to use a humungous amount of RAM (read: 32Gb) on this PC.

Will EVE run ok on it? I'd hate to blow the vast amount of money for this PC and can't run EVE!

Update for my issue. It looks like it's an ATi driver issue where the CCC Profile process hangs in the background taking up 50% of my CPU. I kill the process and Eve works like a charm again. I only have to do it once per boot.

ATi Legacy drivers + Windows 8 = unstable

I'm not sure if it's an Eve issue causing this or if it's just a crap driver.

Since I can see the difference in between the 32 and 64 win versions difference, I'm about to be sure 100% it's Win8 64 platform the issue or compatibility issue here.

Tried everything possible as a non computer expert and actually can't see anything possible to improve this laggy or freezy Eve playing than run the vista 32 version if I want to play Eve decently, which means reboot+bios setup-reboot blahblahblah, ubber cool situation.

This sucks ass.

on windows 8 64 bit, latest graphics card drivers, retribution install is currently exiting the exeFile automatically every time i try to run it from the launcher. If i run it directly it does not work either.

running the exefile from the launcher or directly with windows xp service pack 3 compatibility mode works, running from windows 7 compatibility does not work

Tried everything to get this working. I can sometimes get the client to launch after a system restart, but as soon as I log out I am screwed - client flashes up on the taskbar briefly then dissapears.

Tried launching direct from ExeFile as well, tried running as administrator, nothing. Reinstalled client as well. Nothing.

This is only since retribution btw - was fine on Windows 8 before then.

So basically I am paying 4 subscriptions for nothing at the moment as CCP wont help me cos I have W8.....

I can't seem to reinstall the game client I tried both the installer, which starts to download then the status bar goes blank and above it the text string displays a Chinese symbol followed by D2 and freezes the installer. The offline installer simply refuses to download, I have used different download managers, web browsers, and computers(Every one I have access to is windows8). They all simply refuse to download or completely download the offline parts. When it was installed it tried to update through the game launcher but all I got was a wall of text error message.

Switched to new machine with Windows 8. This machine has an Intel/Nvidia combined GPU (Intel integrated gpu, Nvidia takes over when needed). The machine has 8GB RAM, quadcore intel i7 and an SSD.

I cannot start the Eve client when TeamSpeak is already loaded. Using the logserver.exe I see the client stops loading at line 665:

...
664 2012.12.12 18:00:00:157 CreateDevice
665 2012.12.12 18:00:00:161 trying to detect DX11 feature level...

At this point the eve client icon vanishes, the exefile process dies. The launcher remains active. Quitting TeamSpeak and restarting the client from the launcher will result in a normal start:

...
664 2012.12.12 18:00:00:157 CreateDevice
665 2012.12.12 18:00:00:161 trying to detect DX11 feature level...
666 2012.12.12 18:00:00:255 dx11_0
667 2012.12.12 18:00:00:255 valid adapters: [0]
..and moving on from this point.

I've had some issues with graphics too; one time when a ship exploded, the entire screen background went white. Haven't seen it after the last cache clear action though.

Edit: also seeing these issues, mentioned above:
