CCP I like these glitches sometimes.

(The best part is that the PI I have on that planet is extracting suspended plasma)

I get that effect if you open the planet viewer and then alt tab out of the client before the view has finished rendering. It's like the alt tabbing stops it from loading some of the textures!

From noticing that PI planets actually have resources like magma concentrated on visible magma seas, I think it is extremely likely that planets are composed of multiple texture layers (for example, magma, then smoother rock, then rough rock), with masks applied to them. It looks to me like you failed to load all the textures above the magma layer.
