I feel like knowing the ins and outs of a system and having done your homework should confer some kind of advantage.

I feel that having so many ins and outs that homework is required before so much as thinking about undocking is a bad thing.

I'm sure thousands of newbies have quit three days into thier trial because someone can baited them at the Jita 4-4 undock, or they suffered from some other grief.

This game (that includes us, the veteran players) is really really hard on newbies and we need to make the transition from WOW a little easier on them.

This is a good feature.

AFK Cloaking? An afk cloaker has never ganked me. In fact a cloaker at his keybourd has never ganked me either.

OMG OMG CCP is making the game safer Roll

Please, this is just a usability improvement. It should have worked this way all along. The argument that this is a nerf to can baiting is also ridiculous. This is a visual aid to help newbies learn the ropes more easily, with a configurable setting for vets to just turn it off. If anything, it makes it potentially easier to bait a vet.

And how, exactly, is a new player supposed to know what kind of homework to do? All the vets of this game already have a huge knowledge-based advantage over new players, but that doesn't mean they should suffer just because they have some stuff to learn.

The safety system will not interfere with any vet's game, it won't take away anyone's choices (hence why you have the ability to turn it OFF), and it isn't going to give new players an unfair advantage over the massive knowledge-based advantage that veteran players already have over noobs.

It makes no difference in nullsec and in highsec you aren't likely to be flying a ship that you would be willing to shoot people with.

Too bad you have to undock before you change your safety level. Also too bad you have to reset it from green every time you log in. What if I want to set the ******* thing to red permanently and then get rid of that eyesore dot?

Says the guy in the NPC corp, perfectly safe from wardecs.

CCP have already indicated that they're working on persisting between logins. You'd know that if you've been following the dev blog comments thread. But even that amount of homework is apparently too much for elite PvPers. So take a chill pill and whine on someone else's dime.

safety button stops those irritating popups, therefore it's a nifty feature.

The safety in and of itself doesn't matter, as it doesn't prevent people from doing what they like. I think it's indicative of the direction CCP are taking with eve though - hand holding and pandering to the lazy and stupid. Many other recent and upcoming changes seem to suggest the same thing

The safety system could be an innovative way to teach new players about aggression mechanics etc. That being said, it shouldn't be available once a character passes 30 days or w/e. The objective of anything like this should be to teach players how the game works, not play it for them.

Also not a fan of how they finally decided to grant an option to remove those dumb-as-hell warning popups when you try to fire on anyone outside of null, but instead of just making it a straight options toggle like they should have, they tie it into this system. Pretty lame, Milhouse CCP.

Is it only "lazy" who find the pop ups annoying? Is it only "lazy" people who get the popups when they have to reinstall their systems or use a different computer so the popup can't be permanently dismissed by checking the box and clicking "OK"?

Many other recent and upcoming changes indicate that CCP realises that nobody reads popup dialogs anyway, and most of the procedures for suicide ganking are, "click the weapon button, then dismiss the annoying dialog that pops up."

Please provide some support for your argument that I am lazy or stupid because I don't like dialog boxes popping up interrupting my flow of action.

I also don't particularly see the need for it. Pretty sure you already get pop up windows warning about shooting random people in highsec.

You seem to have misunderstood. I said the safety that prevents you firing weapons was pandering to the lazy and stupid, I did not say disliking the crappy current pop ups was for the lazy and stupid. Reading comprehension, mate. It's important.

Of course the current pop up system is crap, but the solution to that is simply giving players the ability to toggle them off. Not to implement something that prevents weapons fire entirely unless you turn off safeties. See the difference?
