Torpedoes Don't Hit

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I seem to observe that torps which I launch do not hit a target if I enter jump before they impact the target.

It seems to me that torps, being "unguided and dumb" would continue on to the target because there is no active homing as is the case with other missiles.

This would make a big difference for stealth bombers. Usually during a torp run on a target you must warp away before your second volley can reach the target and so that second volley never hits. This effectively halves the torp damage which could be achieved in a single torp run. This is not such a big deal in NULL sec, unless you are trying to do counter bomber operations.

Now then, if you merely cloak and do not jump away, your torps will hit but your active targeting systems shut down BEFORE they hit.

So there is some inconsistency here.

If this were fixed so that torps would hit after the launching platform was in jump, I believe it would have a significant impact to the ability of SBs to operate as Solo PvP players.

Please don't link the video of the Russian pilot flying a 400 mil ISK bomber with a 10MN MWD fit. I've seen it and yes it is impressive, right up until you look at the fit and realize that it literally costs 8 times what the average T-2 bomber costs. His speed tanking is awesome to be sure.

I believe it's more of a technical limitation of the engine rather than an intentional missile mechanic. With very few exceptions (bombs, fighters, fighterbombers), you cannot deal damage to something that is not on grid with you.

You couls post something to reverse this in Features & Ideas, but if it's a technical limitation implemented for simplifying server workload (as I suspect), then the fix would be too high a price to be implemented anytime soon.

On the other hand, I am not a dev, and don't know for sure how Eve works, plus am on a mean "being-wrong" streak today, so take my words with a pinch of salt.

Regarding torps not hitting if you cloak, as long as you are in grid, cloaked or not, they will hit. Missiles in flight to a target will hit said target unless a) they get hit by a very well timed smart bomb, or b) the target moves out of range or warps off. It is the same as being jammed while having missiles in flight, they will still hit the target unless either of the above are true.

I feel that CCP is trying very hard to make things easier for people to play the game. They are slowly converting the missile system into something that acts more like the gun system. This will make alot of people happy but for me it makes me upset that a few of the nice quirks missiles have that make them interesting patch after patch are being removed.

If true you can chalk this one up with being able to bookmarks missiels in flight as something being removed that will never be added back in again. Very sad..

Crosses fingers that with crime watch being updated we might be able to sneak some great new missile features back into the game...

CCP has always used the term guided loosely (and badly). All missiles in EVE are guided, dumbfire missile means you shoot it and it continues in a straight line til it hits something or runs out of fuel. Only bombs work that way in EVE.

Missiles do no damage if you indicate warp sequence, unlike turrets.

This is dumb.
