Ai changes to npc against drones and scrambling

I just wonder. I have heard that on the test server small drones where shot even before they have arrived at their targets 8000 meters away.
Playing the game of returning drones is doable (not fun though), but will i have the chance? I mean currently if i put out sentries it takes like 10 seconds till they start taking damage, which is cause of the tracking. Small drones are even smaller and faster. So I imagine it would take 15 seconds till they take damage.

So If I am underway in a Raven and have 5 small drones with me, can I make use of them to free me of scrambler (even if it takes longer due to the returning game)?
If drones will get insta popped I wouldnt have a chance in a ship even if it has a drone cargo of at least 100m3 so i can take 20 drones with me. Destroying warp scrambler in a Raven with torps sounds not very doable if there are like 10 frigs scrambling you.

Any ideas? I mean ideas for the time after the "defect" of the AI.

Sounds like you got it about right.

So far the developers answer is,"EVE players are smart, they will learn to adapt."

I guess the developers are so used to testing new content in GOD mode, that they do not see the impact it will have on the average player.

I am sure they are right. We will adapt and find new play styles that work with the new mechanics.

But there are a lot of mission runners that will rage when this goes live.

1. buy 10000 Hobgoblin I
2. never use the 'recall drones' button again
3. profit

I should buy an Ishtar.

That would about be the logical consequence. But if you start using drones like ammo, you need to be able to hold them like ammo. --> Drone hold like 500m3 to get 100 small drones?
They would need to update the ships though.

The only time I use drones anymore is for the occasional frigate-sized NPCs that get under my guns. Haven't had a chance to test this yet, but I was thinking in those cases of launching my drones, and instead of sending them after the small NPCs, sending them to a bigger ship sitting near my optimal. Theoretically, the smaller ships will take off after them, reducing their angular velocity to near null, so I can pop them myself before they even get there.

(Edit: it just registered with me that you were talking about a missile ship, which that tactic wouldn't help anyway. Dunno what to do there, other than sacrificial drones. But if you're interested in testing, load up Buckingham and try some things out.)
