Multiple Client Crappiness

Computer Stats:
16gb RAM
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia GTX 570
Intel core i7 6 core (forget the model number)
Two 24" Widescreen monitors

I cannot seem to run more than 2 clients, from the same launcher, without a massive amount of computer slowdown. It's not just a case of FPS drops in-game, but it will stutter the computer as well.

If I minimize 2 clients I can then eek out some usage of the 3rd client, but certainly can't have two up at the same time (one on each screen). Having two at the same time would be the equivalent to about .5 FPS, about.

When I have three clients up, nothing is maxed. GPU/CPU heat is fine, memory and cpu usage aren't maxed, etc.

My laptop has similar stats but with a 485m for a video card (older card) and can run 4 clients without breaking a sweat so I REALLY don't think it is a performance issue. This problem started when the launcher was introduced as previously I could have 4 clients up on the desktop np.

I have tried turning down all graphics options to low and it has zero effect. Have tried unplugging the 2nd monitor (the dvi cable) as well.

I've tried doing some searches for this type of problem and people have said you need to use separate caches using logical links to the install folder and that didn't work.

Help!

Have you tried running multiple clients from different launches?

I run 4 clients at a time (on a very similar rig) but had to do it from seperate folders. My thoughts were that because the clients essentially share the same cache (i think) it creates a bottleneck.

Right, I read about that. There was a wiki entry that explained how to create a logical link to the CCP folder that would essentially create another launcher (without actually duplicating the files) and would create a separate cache for each instance of the launcher. I tried that, saw that the cache was different (could tell by the files and also a whole new set of overview/UI settings), but it did not solve the issue.

Like I said in the post, I can run four clients on my laptop (which has less stats) without it breaking a sweat, on med-high detail, and that runs from one launcher.

Are there are tests I can run to see where the slow down is coming from? It's affecting the whole operating system and not just the in-game client. Some memory test I can perform perhaps, a CPU test? See if there's some form of leak somewhere?

Have you tried turning off anti-aliasing within the client(s)? I had very similar following a recent rebuild (using logical link method) and it can run really ropey unless you turn off anti-aliasing. Forgot that this is usually one of the start up steps. With AA it will run but randomly drops all clients to 5fps but as you say shows minimal load on the GPU(s)/CPU; AA off and can run multiple (three or four) clients maximised all above 100fps (60fps vsync on).

One client with AA on is fine, multiple it doesn't seem to like. Same if I boot up a different game at the same time as having Eve minimised and have "AA on" with that.

Does seem hardware and game agnostic as had it happen on Intel/AMD and nvidia/AMD(Radeon).

16GB RAM
AMD X6 1090t BE (stock and 4.5GHz overclock)
Asus Crosshair IV Formula
EVGA GTX560Ti 2WIN (also had Radeon 6970)
OCZ 1200W PSU
OCZ Vertex 2

That sounds great, will try that when I get home.

Thanks for that information!
