I used to call myself a gamer, id buy most new releases as they came out and spent a large amount of time playing games all across the spectrum from Railroads to Halo. I was proud to call myself a gamer, kept up to date with the gamin industry for years and got genuinely excited about games coming out until recently.

Over the last year the joy has gone. I just cant enjoy anything any more, i stopped buying new releases a few months back because i found id play them for one session then just call it a day and end up with a wasted £35. The only games to have even slightly entertained me recently are Dishonoured, Hotline Miami and Bordelands 2. I fail to even get properly enthusiastic about Mechwarrior and Planetside.

The only game i can enjoy playing now is EVE, im not sure if it the social side or the actuall game but i think EVE has done something to me. Am i just getting old? am i the only one? are games these days just ****?

Thats the EVE effect. I cant play any other MMO these days because they all lack the risk, freedom and industry this game offers. I ended up with a warning in STO for saying that I was a cyno pilot from EVE looking for targets in my bio. Although I have to say that planetside 2 is so much fun when played with others.

I agreed with the above posters. Other games simply have no attraction.

Heh, since I started playing Eve little over a year ago I was able only enjoy Max Payne 3, Limbo and recently Deadlight. Max because of sentiment for previous part, Limbo and Deadlight because they are little pieces of art and survival gems. I don't care about shooters and RTSs, never was really into MMOs.

And there is Eve where I can spend hours doing, well - sometimes doing nothing really in game but a lot around it like fiddling with fits, reading stuff, forum pvp and trololo. Sometimes I giggle like a little girl and I catch a funny looks from my wife and how can I explain to her that my corpies I listen to on comms just went on hilarious discussion about this or that? And she always wants something from me exactly when our fleet finally found someone to shoot at. And why I have a picture of this blond blind chick on my screen?

Well, I don't play other games anymore, I have Eve.

According to wikipedia they are working on second game planned for release in 2013-2014

Quote:
According to Patti, as of October 2010, Playdead is currently working on its second game; the game, partially funded by the Danish Film Institute, has the working title of Project 2. Project 2 is described by the Danish newspaper Politiken as a spiritual sequel to Limbo. It is a 2.5D platform game, using three dimensional graphics while the playfield remains in two dimensions, and utilizes the Unity engine; Playdead opted for the existing solution instead of their custom-built engine they had created for Limbo, to reduce their efforts. While the game is in color, the title remains dark and nearly monotone in color. It is planned for release on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 systems. According to an August 2011 interview with Patti, the title's development cycle will take about three and a half years.

Deadlight is from another company, zombie survival horror platform game. Steam has now Autumn Sale and you can get it for 8.99 euro so basically free :)

we all get older , you're not the only one, yes there is a lot of shite games these days.

I believe what you are suffering from is burn out, it happens to the best of us, take a break away from gaming for a while. you'll come back refreshed.

When i don't play EVE, it's usually because i am playing something Co-Op with friends (who for the life of them won't touch EVE, their frustration threshold is too low). Borderlands, Orks must Die 2, Trine 2, Minecraft. Doesn't really matter as long as we can hang out in Skype talking trash while playing.

Everything else can't really keep me playing for a long time. Except those sandboxy games like Saints Row or Prototype. I can play those for hours still.

But yeah, it's hard to find games that can compete with EVE for when my buddies aren't online.

Can't say I feel the same way if I'm being honest. I enjoy too many types of games to play just play Eve.

Even if I wake up one morning and Eve has magically turned into this perfect, ultimate game that somehow seemlessly included every genre under the sun, I'd still play other games. It's why I love the medium in the first place. I can play 100 slightly different, great games that all fit into one genre and walk away with 100 different, lasting experiences.

What everyone forgets is all the crappy games they played, music they listened to, movies they watched as a kid. So as people become older and look back at their childhood growing up they always seem to think back then - that's when the good stuff was being made damn it! right? - and now everything is a remake or crap or trash or something else that simply doesn't compare to how epic the games they played, music they listened to or movies they watched.

It is just how we remember things. I promise you most of the games you played were crap.

Dare light each word we speak the same, till dawn we cry on games we claim.

I was about to go but got bored. Yea that pretty much sums it up. The only other game i cant put down is Arma 2.

Dishonored was definitly worth and, borderlands 2 was fun co op. Everything else just keeps getting worse.

Why is it that people think this game is for everyone?A better question would be "Why do some people think this game is only for them?"

In EVE, I find a level of depth and complexity that is hard to find in other games and when other EVE players tell me that they are struggling to get into Planetside 2 because they don't get it, I mockingly laugh at them.

I still enjoy games but I would say that EVE (despite its own flaws) has made me into a very spoiled gamer than I was before.

I kill kittens, and puppies and bunnies. I maim toddlers and teens and then more.

Its because other games don't make you invest so much in them, time and knowledge wise. Thats also why if you quit a.k.a "take a break" from EVE you will come back eventually.

Almost seven years ago I played all sorts of games. My MMO of choice was City of Heroes. I had a PS2 with a ton of games on it. I had a bunch of games on my PC too. I'd spend an hour or two online a night, playing CoH, then maybe throw in Madden 2006, or one of the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms games, or Kingdom Hearts II, or Dragon Quest VIII, or, just, whatever.

Then I started playing EVE. I spent my first month playing 8+ hours a day. I would wake up in the middle of the night to set a skill (no queue back then). I joined a corp, had it die, joined another one. Looked at the Crusader and loved how it looked, so I quickly trained up to fly an Interceptor even though I couldn't use MWDs or T2 Small Lasers or half of the other things I needed to make it fly WELL.

Six months in, I applied for ISD Aurora because six months was the minimum time allowed before I could. I got in. I wrote a story for EON, got promoted because of it. Dedicated more and more time for it.

I lost ships in PVP and killed a few. Got somewhat better, but not great. Never great, just good enough.

At first, I was unemployed so I could spend time playing other games besides EVE. But then I became an adult and got real jobs and suddenly didn't have time to play the newest Zelda game. Hey, Bioshock looks cool, but man... No time! Got dudes to kill in EVE. Screw Bayonetta, someone's trying to blow up our POS.

And now I've got a job working on EVE.

So yeah, I know the sentiment.
