Returning Pilot - Need Help

Hello capsuleers,

I played this games a few years back and decided to return recently with all the new additions. Back when I used to play, I was fairly casual, but now I have more time. I've kinda been on the fence on what I want to do in this game, but I like the idea of being a logistics pilot (probably not in pvp for a while though). I want to be able to play the game on plex by making enough isk each month to pay for it. I've had interest in doing exploration as well, but I've read that high-sec exploration has a ton of competition and low pay out. I'm not ready for low-sec until I get comfortable with the game again and understand the mechanics.

I'm a little confused on what part to take to become a logistics pilot, and what I can so as a "side career" for some extra isk. Mining and all that doesn't really interest me. I do have 4 mill+ skill points, any tips?

Well Incursion fleets are always looking for logi pilots.
You might wanna try your luck there. ISK is definitly to be made there.

The logistics ships have bonuses to remote repair or remote shield and/or remote capacitor transfer. Look on the market or in evelopedia for advanced cruisers - logistics, check out stats, ship info, etc. Each cruiser has a T1 variant / smaller brother that has some bonuses to remote repair etc., so as a career path you could start with those and move on to the actual logistics hulls once you have the full skills.

Note that:

1. What's needed depends on whether the fleet is shield-based or armor-based.
2. Each logistics hull specializes in either/or but not both.
3. If you want to "do everything" then you'll have to train for two or more opposing race's ships.
4. Being a healer is a group role, and this is EVE where corp theft / scamming / espionage are allowed, so it will probably be harder to find a good group of people to regularly play with than it will be to skilltrain for the ships.

As far as making ISK for subscription costs, it's noble, but it's not in CCP's interest to make it easy. There's another thread in the newbie forum here detailing the average ISK income for various activities in high sec, most of which you've expressed disinterest in. Being high-sec, the incomes are relatively low; you will have to grind for a significant amount of time per month to make your ISK.

Stop listening to the people who tell you this. There's only really competition if you choose to be in crowded (Caldari) space and the payouts... well lets just say that once you get decently good at it then you'll find 100 mil on an evening "a slow night" fairly soon.

If you plan on running logi in incursion fleets train to fly a basilisk. Shield fleets and shiny fleet with macs tend to put out incredible dps and a plow through incursions. The Unoburos site is more likely to be armor tanked because of the ridiculous amount of dps your fleet will face and so a guardian might be more appropriate.

In PVP You will more likely to be flying the Scimitar, the Guardian, or the Oneiros, depending on the fleet.

In retribution the tech 1 logi cruisers: Scythe, Osprey, Augoror, and the Exequror are getting a major overhaul. I've been tooling around with them on the test server and there a fantastic stop gap if you cant fly a logi ship-if you have good skills.

Im not entirely sure but I've yet to see how well the tech 1 logi ships fair in incursions. In pvp groups of them well co-ordinated tend to hold there own pretty well.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

Thanks for the replies all,

I've looked further into logistics and the skill books for logistics is quite expensive...yeah, gonna hold off on that for now...too pricey for my books.

I guess I'll fall back on exploration, my hacking's at 3, and I'm working on astro. pinpointing...I really want to get good money off it...probably to fuel further training and maybe buy some plex.

Don't worry about that Logistics skill book price.

It takes a bit of training to get into it (Cruiser 5 for instance), by the time you will be near the skill to be trained you should also have found something that makes you the ISK to buy such stuff.

It might look really expensive at this moment, but in time you will likely throw that money around when you need to without wondering about it. Progression is the key here, take it slow and take your time to get there, your interest might even change along the way.

Truth be told, I can't afford that book at all, I spent most of my isk on an abaddon shortly before I stopped playing. I'm thinking of doing exploration to get some money to get logistics up.
