So what is the future of walking in stations

I get that this has been re-prioritised along with everything else, and that it is now a low priority for CCP compared with FiS. Which is a good thing.

It's starting to look like Incarna will never be realised to the extent that was originally promised.

As one of the players who was looking forward to Incarna (not what we currently have, but the one with actual stuff to do). I'm pissed off, mainly because the feature which has been promised for years (and years), that I have been looking forward to, doesn't seem like its going to happen.

Can we actually get some sort of Dev Blog on this? What is the new scope for Incarna? Is it back in the 'coming soon' category?

Soon™

Or more like in a year or two or few.

Never if some of the bitter vets can get their way.

Though being a bitter vet myself, I would not mind getting what we were told we were going to get, not what we got.

Oh I read his letter. Simply interpreted (for you) it reads. I've been naughty so you get new FIS in Winter. Walking in stations (not CQs) "soon".

Promised? They did little more than go wild with the concept which admittedly sounds cool.

And I do hope Incarna continues to be just that, never fully realized. If you want to play with your toon, go play Second Life.

Dead, never to be touched again. If you want "Walking in Station", go play Second Life or in traffic.

Looks like WiS will be a fair way off for a while.

So like adding microtransactions with the NEX store as a testbed for Dust514? The sooner the Nex store is buried the better. Allow players to craft clothing, ship painting, etc which would be adding value to EVE the sandbox game rather than taking things from it.

Nex (Cash Shop) / Aurum - removing sand from the sandbox since Incarna. Currently the only use for aurum is to buy virtual items in the in-game store, but Cockerill expects to expand its uses in the future.

Best bet for future walking in stations would be to license somebody else's 3d engine (the one in Rage is nifty) or just use the unreal engine that Dust has.

Use that for performance and reliability.

But before spending money on that give 1-2 developers the job of brainstorming, working with community, and basically sitting down to ask the question :

"Where is the interesting gameplay and content coming from?"

They need 6 months worth of producing a proposal and planning an answer for this question.

And completely remove the NeX store of course. All incarna content needs to be player manufactured and sold by players.

Soooooo let me get this straight: we're NOT getting WiS anytime in the next few months? Why even have captain's quarters then? They serve absolutely no purpose without the inclusion of WiS. Not only that, why even have updated avatars if we're not getting WiS? We have nothing in our captain's quarters...no games, no movies to watch, no interaction, nothing. Having updated captain's quarters is just adding insult to injury. "Ooh, I have a different colored wall in my quarters in which I still can't do anything." Say it isn't so.

You are right of course, they do serve no purpose (for Eve Online). But like everything envisaged and delivered during the :18 months: period the purpose was in Hilmar's own words in this gamesutra interview "battle-testing" tech for use in other games.

This is the dirty little secret of Incarna you need to wake up to. It has no content because its just a technology demo really that got retasked at the last minute by greedy little MT scrubs to sell NeX.

I repeat.

There is no content because nobody ever sat down to seriously design some meaningful gameplay for it and NeX trumped any kind of player led industrial and supply content.

If you want to get angry at somebody then Hilmar has taken responsibility which he doubtless must share (to some degree) with the greedy MT scrubs who convinced him that Incarna as a vanity item display case was "enough" for those silly loyal airheaded Eve players who (after all) had bought the :18 months: jive in the first place.

I wonder if they can use Incarna as a method to begin the introduction of the Jovians.

I mean these guys are so secretive that they are hardly going to pick up the phone just because you pick up the agent finder.

In terms of game mechanics if you successfully run an establishment (sell x number of boosters/beer/slaves) perhaps it increases the chance of having a Jovian NPC appearing at one of your tables, who gives out mysterious deep space missions (or massages if it's THAT sort of establishment).

Let the Jovian win, is the advice offered at the station's poker tables.

But I think WiS = Waiting in Stations now. kind of sad but oh well, Winter might have enough excitement to coast till establishments are released.

You are trolling right?

Blame the "haters" for an engine that doesn't work right despite huge expense over 5 years of development.
Blame the "haters" for lack of all non MT/NeX content.
Blame the "haters" for a mandatory deployment that overheats GPUS
Blame the "haters" for immersion breaking sloppy rollout
Blame the "haters" for unsubscribing from a game that wasn't delivering what they wanted.
Blame the "haters" for employing utter lunatics to crowbar MT into a subs based game.

Seriously.

What part of "Incarna is a glorified tech demo for a completely different game crow-bared into Eve and then hastily retasked into a NeX vanity display cabinet" are you not understanding?

The winter expansion will have 3 times as much WiS content as Incarna did. What's to be discontent about?

This^^^

I'd really want to see the establishments, go to an in-station bar and have a fight with a corpie.

I'm sure ccp'd use the line that Captains Quarters is mostly for new player experience at the moment

For Winter we're getting the 3 other CQs, which should be pretty damn awesome.
Before the redirection, we would have gotten establishments.

Perhaps we'll get them next Summer?

Well to be fair they said it 'would not be a big priority', not that it wasn't on a list somewhere. I think it's pretty clear that CCPs immediate focus is FiS - something the players vocally demanded. WiS was always heavily tied to WoD and if development of that has reduced (including the loss of staff) CCP are caught between a rock and a hard place. WiS is an expensive endeavour, and not likely one to net them much income through EVE alone.

Equally I think CCP really need to sit down and find the 'game' in WiS - which currently doesn't exists. It might look nice, but is it any fun?

Purpose of WiS (in the end)?

When i dance with a fake female avatar in a bar, little read hearts will pop out of our heads. Thats about it, and i can´t care less, as i don´t see much contend (in the end).
