Tactical Self-Destruct

Just an idea I though of after messing around and setting a ship to self destruct and then ejecting from it..

I think it would be great if ships set to a "tactical self destruct" could cause an EOA damage that increases with its mass. This would scale so that capital ships would decimate a small fleet.

There could be a mini game where opposing parties could board the ship and attempt to stop the self destruct perhaps?

Obviously the timer would need to be reduced for a tactical self destruct to be usable.

Also, I just gave myself another idea (the pain, the pain), what if on setting your ship to self destruct you are force ejected from your ship in your pod and the same mini game is available to those that caused you to self destruct to attempt to save the ship but doing so puts their own ship at risk due to proximity.

Really it makes no sense that you would remain in your ship on self destruct. Unless your bluffing.

I'm sure there could be an easy lore reason for the presence of a tactical self destruct also.

Finally, if it were possible to eject from a ship with the tactical self destruct at speed and have it carry on at speed then we could see true suicide fleets.. The ships themselves would be easy kills at base attributes (no modules running) and frigate/destroyer/cruiser hulls in small numbers would pose little threat but are more likely to cross the distance.. Just thought it might spice up fleet warfare even more.

I'd grab a freighter and pop it on the 4-4.

Be lulzy for in a fight between two brawler ships were you are both low on HP but you know your going to lose to take your opponent with you.

this isnt a new idea there was several like last week or so. but the idea of forced self destruction with aoe damage/range based on mass/ore value or w/e would be a good way to get more people to fly BSs in low and null

Yea I doubted it was anew idea but just playing around with it I can see a whole heap of applications. Highsec is an interesting point that I hadn't thought about.. Perhaps in highsec it can only do a maximum of half your total remaining hit points in damage so you could never pop anyone.. Hmm or just disable in high

I had a similar idea not so long ago, but mine was based upon ships with jump drives. A ship with a jump drive explodes with an AOE damage effect (self-destruct or dying normally, doesn't really matter) caused by the imploding/exploding jump drive (it is after all used the make an "artificial wormhole" through which the ship jumps (cyno jump)).

It has been a recurring idea thread for a few years. It gets shot down every time. The most prevalent reasons that I recall so far have been A) People would simply exploit it by using a few dedicated ships as massive smart bombs. B) People would simply use it every single time they knew they were going to lose the fight. and C) it would effectively remove (even moreso than it is already) small ships from usefulness in larger scale engagements since the damage would most likely one shot them.

Neat concept and RP idea though.

well yeas and no, surely it still comes down to the higher value of the larger mass ship versus a potential kill. But I was also thinking still broadcast the self distruct but give people vastly reduce time to escape the blast.

Damn it I like it the idea :) lol

What about if activating the tactical self disruct burns out implants and therefore strips the player of any implants they have installed.. then it becomes more of a balanced call.

Then when people undock fifty of them onto the 4-4 undock, they use empty clones.

And if you're losing a ship expensive enough to handle two minutes under fire after you've already lost the fight, you're probably bubbled anyway.

1) Wait until a lot of transport ships and freighters and things are near in jita 4-4
2) detonate a freighter and kill everyone.
3) a few friends nearby off grid in Itv Vs who were pre-aligned to the jita 4-4 zoom in instantly and scoop up everything everyone was carrying that was worth any value

This ridiculous scenario wouldn't even just be for lulz, even. This would probably be a decent way to make PROFIT... Or at the very least, recoup a lot of your losses on the freighter, making it very cheap lulz.

Shocked awesome Lol I like my idea even better now :)

Hence my thoughts about making it impossible to pop anyone with the feature alone.. but i get what your saying

Hang on.. what if it caused damage out to 10km (or so) but EM outside of that and caused everyone to drop shields/armor and be immobile for a number of seconds...

Then the second through fiftieth waves of SDing ships would finish them all off...
