If you're in a player corp you are by definition not solo.

Doesn't matter what you might be doing at any given time, you always have others to call on if required.

Edit: Besides, you know full well that when talking about playing EVE solo what is meant is playing without being a member of a player corp.

Still don't see your point.

Plenty of people play with others while in NPC corp.

Plenty of people play alone while in player corp

And alone in my opinion is still the same as solo. Solo means 1 player.

I'm in an alliance, and I play EVE solo [I'm the only active member remaining, so I was made CEO and executor]. Even when I wasn't solo, I still mostly played solo (unless you count my army of alts).

I don't think being in a player corp or alliance can be used as a measure of your playstyle.

i cant say if its worth for you.

But my story in eve starts from 2008 and its been worth it to me. I like games that has enough depth to require some thinking to allow you be succesfull on your goals without going in guns plazeing so to speak...

If eve offers you what your looking for, go for it. Plenty of room even for us that like do lots of stuff on our own. But i do find it fun to time to time do stuff with people, thats why im member of player run corporation. Only time will tell where i shall endup from here if it someday fall. But thats part of the fun for me, in eve your choises can have unexpected consequences and lead you to totally in direction you didint expect.

Enemy today, might be your friend tomorrow or wise versa... etc...

My point is that the OP has asked for advice about the viability of playing EVE as a solo player, which he clearly defines as meaning a single player who is NOT in a player corporation.

So all your arguments about the various other definitions that might apply to the term "solo" are totally irrelevant to this thread.

I can only draw from my personal experience that EVE is worth it. I have always been a fan of space sim and I subscribed to EVE for a few months back in 2006, terminating my account only when I was conscripted into the army. After being honorable discharged in 2008, I have been searching for a decent space sim and none cut it. I comtemplate coming back to EVE then, but found out that my old account was somehow banned and gone. I forgot about it soon and got on with my life. Then the recent hype about Star Citizen got me buzzing about space sim again and the next thing I knew, I registered for a new account and was soaring through space,

Boy am I glad to be back. EVE is still the one and only unique gaming experience, be it space sim or an mmorpg!

So when you log in..

You close all chat windows.
You won't read you mails
You won't respond to any interaction from others.

As if you do any of the above, you stopped playing solo and played with others.

To summarize for the op:

It is possible to play EVE solo both in an NPC as in a player corp. However keep an open mind and make friends ingame to expand your options.

Don't forget little pieces of post-it-notes to put over the ninja looters in your mission so they aren't on your screen. Or the heart of a roleplaying god that makes believe his mining barge just has a stuck accelerator when you get bumped....or wait...my freighter didn't get ganked the cargo was explosive!!!!

As a Solo player myself it is possible. It takes a bit of dedication and cunning, but it is absolutely viable. Don't let anybody else tell you any different.

Play the game you want play in EVE, don't let others dictate how you want to play it.

Your more than welcome to convo me ingame if you any questions.

I suggest that you both take lessons in reading comprehension.

The OP isn't asking about "playing solo"; he is asking about playing as a solo player (a totally different concept) and makes it clear what he means by that. All talk about what does or does not constitute "playing solo" is irrelevant.

So you define a solo player as someone who just want to do stuff as he likes, when he likes?

I and, much more importantly, the OP both define a solo player as one who is not in a corp with other players.

The responses reflect the game. Unique, independent and unpredictable. And that's very cool....

Lots of goodies in this post - far more than I expected. I know the truth is in me to figure out my experience in the game and it's good to see that theme repeated as I read. I don't want to hide and I don't want to skirt around the conflagrations of the PVP world. Just want to make sure I'm (as much as I can) setting my own course - it sounds like I have lots of options and variables to consider. Along with this is possibly finding a suitable corp.

Thank you, to everyone who responded.
