The fun part in all this is that already know in this "spaceship game" already most of the time is spent just docked in station where players (any kind of players, pirates, industrialist, pvpers, traders, whatever) spend an huge part of their time in a lot of activities: interacting with others, chatting, fitting ships, ship spinning, trading, scamming, plotting, sorting their inventory, playing lotteries, trolling on the forum and much more.

Yea, I know.

OH! You meant someone other than yourself? I haven't seen any sorry.

All these people talk about is work on WiS. This whole thread is a repeat.

I just turned into an egg, did I level up? I spent an hour trying to salvage a wreck, when in local a guy said "Stop it, this is my Tempest, I was AFK"

I don't really get why they've dropped it. It makes no sense to me.

Aside from a few ignorant whiners who's entire argument against WiS is that they don't personally want it, there seems to be a massive support for the idea of WiS. After a rather successful roam I was talking to the fleet about WiS. Of the fifteen successful vet PvPers there, only one of them was even vaguely against the idea, and the rest of them wanted it pretty badly. For some reason there seems to be some ridiculous notion that PvPers are against WiS. They're not, its just that the people who don't want WiS seem to like saying "Eve is a PvP game" as some kind of nonsensical reason not to add new content. Even more nonsensical since CCP started talking about PvP being introduced into the WiS equation.

This thread, if anything shows the overwhelming support people have for the idea. CCP, your doing yourself and your players a disservice by not working towards the future of Eve. Now, I am not going to say I am going to unsub, because I wont. I love Eve, and I am very unlikely to ever stop playing. But I, and a great deal of others, are deeply unsatisfied with your decision to abandon work on it. And, as a loyal customer, I feel cheated. You've promised and promised and promised and not delivered.

The lack of WiS content is easily the biggest complaint on the forums (aside from the "Big Lie"), and you owe it to your customers to address it.

If this thread is your idea of 'Massive Support' I have some 'profitable ventures' for you to invest in.

The human brain has the tendency to remember only the things that fit their world view. For example, you read the whole thread and seem to be under the impression that lots of people are against WiS.

I would invite you to take a more objective approach and actually count the number of people seemingly for and against the idea. I think Davon is right. I only count 8 (quite vocal) people who are against the idea, in the whole thread. Now, I wasn't about to count how many people have actually posted in total. But I'm pretty sure its at least quadruple that.

And btw they seem for the most part forum alt in NPC corp from mowhere. So not even real palyers. Probably is only one switching accounts (while docked in station) :)

Beside the numeric consideration (forum as ususal are reppresentative only of a small minority of player base) I think the expectations, needs and potential related to WiS is evident.

I started to play in 2007 and the feeling about this always been strong. And is meaningfull how it continues, generation after generation, till to become an obsession. Probably is the more persistent request across the years. Not evaluating this isn't wise.

Well, for one, and it probably won't be 'popular' to say so; personally, I don't think that the Carbon engine is even remotely capable of delivering a multi-player experience - even solo 'play' is a killer for players on low-end machines.

The news that the WoD Team have actually dropped it, is quite probably, all the confirmation you need - unless a Dev feels like contradicting it.

What would be interesting to know is what 'Engine' are they using now...?

Props to CCP btw, for finally admitting that they've binned Team Avatar, (or Team Absent, as I've read them being called, lol...) - it was the exact confirmation I asked for, over a month ago in the 'other' thread... It's not news I wanted to hear, but as a paying customer, I don't think it should be kept 'secret' as such, either...

Again, as in other threads, there's a stream of Leet PVP'ers and Alts jumping in to claim this is a PVP game; and that WiS has no place here, yet from its inception, CCP has envisaged EVE as a Sci-Fi simulator - with the dream of developing it to encompass all that that entails.

I've done my fair share of PVP over the years on this and other accounts, be in WH space, Null Sov wars, or even FW and Piracy - but what drew me to EVE (and kept me paying) was the promise of watching it grow to be more than just 'pew pew'...

Currently, that dream's up in smoke, and a vocal minority would like to see it stay that way.

Hell, I might as well finish off with a semi-troll, just to bug them a bit...

CCP - Now that WoD have dumped Carbon, how about telling them to give us all the hairstyles they 'built'..? - ours are too few and far between...

The key point here is: Eve is not a space combat sim, eve is PvP.

This isn't true tbh, eve has been 100% based on space combat since day one (not to mention a large part of it is not pvp). There has been no non space-combat related game play in eve to date (there is no game play in WIS). Manufacturing/trade etc are all reliant on space combat as well. Sure after 9 years of being a space combat sim eve can branch out a bit but that doesn't mean it hasn't been a space combat game for its entire existence.

err your point undermines your own point.
mentioning Manufacturing and trade implies there is more to this game than just combat, hence it isn't 'just a combat sim' as I stated.
The fact that those activities are made possible, or least greatly improved upon by destruction (which ofc can occour during shipto ship combat) is not relevant to your point, and entirely relevant to mine.
To view this game strictly through the lens of ship vs ship combat is imo one dimensional, but distictly a right you carry as a subbing player.

However this game is about PvP, it does included space combat. it isn't a combat sim.
focusing too much on any one area of the game makes it lopsided, a fact players of every style routinely fail to acknowledge (on the forums) in the vain hope that their complaints will be heard by CCP and the game adjusted to taste.
Human Politics, working as intended.

I say expand this game into every possible type of experience for this genre, opening as many options for me to take at any time, and pray CCP doesn't **** it up royally.

Situation is EVE is a set of mini-games and meta-games. None of them are too interesting and perfect: PvP is mediocre, FW is mediocre, trade, craft, PI, PvE, null, WH, exploration, politics, forums - everything isn't too interesting by itself. Strong point of EVE is diversity of play styles: I can switch to another activity if I'm bored with my present stuff. EVE's diversity of features hold me in the game for years. And WiS could add much more to that diversity making EVE more attractive and re-playable.

Good news: now I can switch to SWTOR for space avatar based sci-fi MMO PvE, Planetside 2 for "space" avatar based sci-fi MMO PvP and probably StarCitizen in the future for sci-fi trade and craft. And maybe to PC version of Dust if I'll be tired of Planetside 2 (but probably I won't - that game is fun)

TL;DR CCP undermined EVE attractiveness by ditching WiS development and newly available sci-fi MMO games successfully fulfill gaps in EVE gameplay.

Just to answer a couple of points:

  • Team Avatar doesn't exist anymore. As per the thread linked earlier our prototype has been shelved for the time being. Please read both my post and the one from CCP Unifex for the full picture on what's happening with WIS development at the moment. The team members are off working on a whole bunch of stuff from the launcher, through to new game features.
  • WoD is definitely still in development and development is split off from EVE so that they can concentrate on their game and making it awesome.

So.. Unifex was quite serious when he said that last bit, and by that, I mean he meant to say the whole thing was finished, done, and shelved indefinitely.

Well.. why didn't he just say that then, instead of leading most of us to believe that there was still some interest in developing that further. At least, some interest in doing so before EVE is fully caught up on ships in space, to the satisfaction of the Jita Statue killers, which.. it never will be.

Good to know. If it's an idle fancy, why waste time on it at all? You've got to know that the players against it will never be happy, are never satisfied, and nothing is ever even remotely finished enough or good enough for them and never will be. I accepted that a long time ago, even if I do still rally against their obtuse arguments from time to time. Mostly just when they've been unchallenged so long that their sense of entitlement starts sparking and sending off solar flares.

Wouldn't want them to implode.

CCP needs to scrap WOD and work on making Star Citizen redundant by making EVE's fighter and fighter-bombers a game with joysticks.

Not too sure about every one, but close enough.

As much as I love EVE and think it was awesome, the studio behind it is a farce.

Dust will tank, WoD?! will never even get released I bet and EVE Online is not going to go any further as it gets older. WiS and WoD they talked about for 7 years now I think. Duke nukem forever when it comes to CCP.

Best chance they've got is to sell to Sony or something at this point.

They also need to leave Iceland, sorry to say but no one wants to move to Iceland for work. At least not any real talent.

After reading the entire thread and the back and forth its saddening to me that any WiS is shelved. The vocal minority of the anti-WiS crew is duly noted and annoying if you ask me. Theres so much content that WiS could provide if done right and everyone knows that noone will get it "right" for everyone.

Just sad to see it get shelved was hoping for more myself.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.
