I fitting a Crane for lowsec.

Looking for a good fit I see two different versions on the lowslots:

option 1
2x Nanofiber Internal Structure II

or

option 2
2x Inertia Stabilizers II

Could someone explain to me when I chould choose for option one or two?

Option 1 - your ship will fly faster and turn faster, but will have less structure hp, which helps in a time of need, you will have less structure hp to hold you intact.

Option 2 - your ship will turn even faster but has the same speed, but its signature will be bigger, meaning that it will be easier to target and hit you, meaning more damage taken.

In low-sec for a crane, I would say option 1.
It doesn't have enough structure HP to begin with to survive much of a low-sec attack, so with the nano at least you won't be targeted as fast as you would have vs the stabilizers, and you in theory won't get as much damage taken (depends who is after you).

The added signature from inertia stabs will also make other ships lock you faster, which is their main drawback imo. If someone starts firing on you, you're dead anyway.
OTOH, the added speed from the nano is quite useless (I don't suppose you turn on the autopilot very often).

Personnaly, I use inertia stabs when Expanded cargoholds are not necessary. My prowler has a low base sig so the bloat is less of a problem. But anyway we're talking about 1/1000 seconds of lock time here.

Personally I tend to use one of each. I'm not positive if that's the best way to do it, but it works decently well. Also, remember meta4 mods. Meta4 I-Stabs are strictly better (3% less sig bloom), Meta 4 Nanos have the same agility, 0.5% less speed boost, and 5% less hull penalty. I tend to run with meta4 stuff almost exclusively.

Another facet to this debate is that you need to reach 75% velocity before you can warp.

If you use nano, your speed goes up. So now you will take longer reaching that 75% mark.

But like others said, stab blows up your sig, makes you easier to lock.

Actually I believe the use of the nano will make you accelerate faster, due to it's decrease in inertia. That's part of why nano ships are so effective at turning fast and accelerating out away from damage.

on a side note, a crane in low sec should be more than safe with just its cloak. If there's a gate camp that's gonna catch you anyhow, (and you don't screw up) a nano or inertia stab won't make a difference.

2x Cargohold Expander II.

Either you cloak and warp away, or you get decloaked and die. No amount of EFT warrioring will save you.

You are correct that using a nano will make you accelerate faster, as it has a decrease in inertia.

Based on the acceleration formula Vt = Vmax * (1 - e^(-t * 10^6 / (I*M) ), which can be rewritting as Vt/Vmax (or percent of speed at time t)=1-e^(-t*10^6/(I*M)), an increase in speed results in proportionally faster acceleration, so increasing max velocity does not increase time to warp.

All that matters in that regard is agility - since Istabs have the higher agility boost, if all you're worrying about is getting to 75% velocity, istabs are clearly the better choice.

You're correct that those are the two options. However, cargohold expanders instead of istabs/nanos directly increase your chances of option 2, getting decloaked and dying, since you are hanging around on the gate/location where you cloaked for longer.

I always fit nanos. Faster speed for that time you absolutely must burn back to gate, marginally slower align time than with inertial stabs.

Inertial stabs increase sig radius = the enemy fast tackle locks you faster.

False. Acceleration is based on an ln curve and affected by the mass and agility attributes. Velocity is calculated as a % then multiplied by max velocity to show your speed. Max velocity does not affect acceleration at all. Example:

Two ships with identical Mass and Agility attributes but different max velocities will align to warp in exactly the same time.
