Warning if undocking with cargo worth alot?

Everyone thinks this would be an exercise in new-player hand-holding, and indeed it would probably be more encouraging for new players to know that they're learning things like "be careful what you carry" via the in-game mechanics instead of learning it the hard way and never wanting to log on again.

However, What it would really do is take away freighter pilots' excuses to whine ever again - if there are in-game warnings delivered to them that they've chosen to ignore, then in doing so they have inherently chosen to take full responsibility for their transit. If they lose their ship and cargo, after being warned, then they can't complain.

I think a lot of people on this thread are overreacting to this suggestion, if not acting like complete children. It seems no one is capable of constructive criticism these days - that doesn't mean that you have to agree with every suggestion made, it just means that if you don't agree, explain what's wrong with the idea in clear & concise prose INSTEAD of abusing, insulting or otherwise belittling the person who thought of it.


Just thought I'd reiterate this point above - the main point being that a warning system would make it so that freighter pilots cannot complain, and cannot say they didn't know or weren't warned.

Far be it for me to tell anyone let alone the Goons how to play....but whether you dont want to kill EVE or not, i have no doubt these kind of things do have a negative impact on player numbers....also i know most Alliances worth fighting would produce their own goods to wage war...but wouldnt the lost revenue/goods/ships lost in freighters in hi-sec cause less "good fights" in null for Goons....i dont know tbh, just asking the question.

What i would really like to see is Goons going all hero like in hi-sec, you know, patrolling in hundred man BS fleets, letting it be known that "hi-sec is now under Goon control, we will not tolerate naughty behavior", anyone not adhering would face the full might of GS.....imagine hi-sec running like a well oiled engine, further fueling fights in low/null with increased productivity.

Heros in hi-sec....utter bastards in low/nullsec...now that would really mess with peoples heads.

I see it a lot of times....people warp to a low sec gate, and hold the gate because they are reading the pop up window that warns you of jumping into low sec.....and then they jump...and die.

They already know how much their cargo is woth thanks to the cargo value number shown when they open the cargo window.

That would require me to care whether I'm wanted or not. The dash is proper punctuation and represents a continuation of thought in a separate sentence. FYI, "internet" is not a proper noun, therefore it doesn't require capitalisation.

Yes, it does. But it's not something you're "taught" specifically in game, it's something that you need to notice for yourself, or have pointed out to you. For some people it's obvious, but for others it's not. And people who are still learning the game, they may be on a different curve than you - it took me four or five months to even hear anything about players going after valuable cargo. It's not something everyone automatically thinks about.

What matters to my point, though, is that it covers bases. The bottom line is that if freighter pilots or other haulers have a warning presented to them prior to embarkation which they choose to dismiss and ignore, then they have nothing to complain about if they lose their stuff. By it's very virtue, the dismissal of any prior and obvious warning means you are accepting the consequences of ignoring it.

So, in the future, if such a warning were to be implemented and a freighter pilot comes into the forums to cry foul of a ganking he or she was just a victim of, then we can all point and laugh and literally say, "you cannot say you were not warned".

No it is not only completly pointless hand holding but also unworkable. Different ships can carry different cargo amounts based ontheir tanking ability and the only people this would be aimed at are the ones who will ignore it anyway as they currently do. We already have more than enough systems in place to know if you have a lot of isk in the hold.

The thing is people are probably aware they are carrying cargo worth alot. But they might not be aware someone is out there waiting to gank them. At least if they were given a warning they cant say they werent told etc. It is actually not holding hands, it is reminding people that whatever they do is their own responsibility

I really hate tutorials, its impossible to make ones that will fit every player, they are just a waste of time. When eve started there wasnt even one :)

Minecraft didnt even have one and it is one of the most successful games recently

I think you may be onto something. My daughter plays that and she hasn't been ganked in a freighter.
