On December the 3rd - most likely.

The actual write ups are changing, so i figure id let you google it and get the latest as is - id go to a reputable source of course.

Personally, i think this might be EPIC.

They'll probably announce they found water, for like the 5th time.

But in related news, the Viking mission 30 years ago found evidence of microbial life on Mars, but it was quickly buried by NASA and forgotten about, and this guy who worked on the Viking mission thinks Curiosity may finally prove it did.

NASA does this all the time. It's never anything exciting. These announcements are actually getting annoying. They always hype it up, "We've made a discovery for the history books! But we can't tell you yet! Our scientists are hard at work confirming this miraculous discovery!"

Then you wait a week and it's...

"We found a rock! It's 17% more brown than other rocks we've encountered! We've named this rock "Alexander Hamilton!" We're going to shine a laser at it, and poke it with our robo-claw! WOOOOOOOOO! 17% BROWNER!!!"

If you look to the left of the Rover you'll notice some green lichen-like substance on the rocks there, also the drifts of sand, and then there is the coloring and consistency of the dirt. Hard to say exactly, but it could be rich in aluminum, or it could be nitrogen and/or carbon rich. Definitely unusual though.

I'm sure they'll have some interesting findings anyway. That 'rock' in the foreground is a little odd though, isn't it?

The discovery was made with a device that analyzes molecules, so at best it's the discovery of organic compounds on Mars. I'm no bio chemist, but as far as i know that's just a group of molecules and doesn't necessarily mean there is or was life on Mars.

I'm a bit skeptical of epic NASA announcements after their false claim of arsenic based lifeforms two years ago :P

I agree with you, this was big NASA fail, when they talk about new definiion of life, during experiments on arsenic - acid things, same like before, they talk about changing books etc Smile, hovewer NASA need scream and make science show, to get money form US budget ;p anyway Good luck to NASA, in fact they are good people who explore space.

Not only was the 'arsenic based life' later found to be false, but the study was from years earlier, and they just randomly decided to make a big deal out of it suddenly.

Almost like they were trying to distract everyone. Oh, look what was discovered at that same time, and was quickly swept under the rug while all we heard about was the bogus arsenic based life.

Big whoop, they found oxygen on yet another planet, so what? They know there is oxygen on quite a few different planets, what's so astounding about finding it on Rhea?
