Currently running level 4 missions with a Golem in Caldari space and doing just fine. I want to try somehting new though and I'm looking at the Nightmare. Would it perform as well as a Golem in Caldari space, or should I buy it and go for Amarr space instead?

I use a Nightmare for Caldari mission running. Works fine for me. I only have Large Energy Turret 4, Amarr BS 2, and Caldari BS 4. I do struggle with Mercs when they get up close, but that could be fixed by getting Amarr BS 4 for the extra tracking bonus. Apart from that I love it.

well it's not the worst possible ship but from what i know, an artillery mach or vindicator would probably do better. as you may know, guristas are mostly weak to kinetic and thermal, whereas lasers shoot em/thermal. this pushes down the nightmare's effective dps by 10-15% against guristas (my careful guestimate), whereby it gets outperformed by a machariel, vindicator and probably even raven navy issue (with cruises) who all three can shoot into the resistance hole.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Yeah, been considering that aswell. Well, I am only 3 days training away from NM but like 20 days away from Mach, so I should probably go NM and Amarr? A little change of scenery might do me good anyway :p

I can confirm the nightmare does work but not as well as a Mach.
I have no problems with the NM with Tech 2 Tachs being able to engage from 15km to 120km makes a difference and I like it cos lasers look pretty. Also fun is a Vargur or paladin but then its the same difference as NM v Mach. All will do the missions just at a different pace. Train them all buy them all and chop and change its 50/50 what gets used more between the Mach and NM in my hangar either one you train for you won't be disappointed.

Just do what's best for you play your game.

It's worth noting that this is one area where the tach versus pulse debate isn't even close: since Scorch has a very high EM component it barely scratches paint on Guristas so tachs win hands down.

I always thought a tengu was killer for gurista space. I use a HAM tengu which puts out about 900 dps @ 44km, 750 @ 77km

I am missioning in Caldari space atm. I am using a Tengu, Mach, and Nightmare. There are certain missions where one performs better than the others. Whenever I am given a Blood Raider/Sansha mission, the Nightmare just melts everything. For a "kill everything (non-BR/Sansha) mission", the Mach gets undocked. For blitzable missions, I'll use the Tengu.

The better the variety of ships you own, the more efficient you can do missions.
